AZ Lady Senior gets in gun fight with teenage litter bug

The woman was just out for a walk when she came across an 18-year-old man throwing trash in the wash. She yelled at him and the man yelled right back with some derogatory comments. The man then went over to a nearby wall and she said someone threw a gun over. It turned out to be just a BB gun, but she thought it was real.

Diane Steen was the woman involved, an active member in the area neighborhood watch. She said, "When I saw the gun come over the wall I thought 'Oh my god, it's a .45!' I thought he was going to kill me."

So she quickly went for her own gun. She said, "He kept coming towards me and I said stop. He just kept coming and he was aiming it at me so I fired a shot and fired a second."

She missed, and he ran away, but eventually fired back. That's when she realized it was just a BB gun and she forced it out of his hands. She waited there for police, during which time the suspect attempted to get his gun back.

Namely that the lady didn't draw her weapon and open fire until after the litterer received what appeared to be a firearm and advanced on her. So she was not the one provoking a gunfight.

the litter bug pointed a gun at her. Sure, in hindsight it was a BB gun, but nobody with two brain cells to rub together is going to assume that the gun pointed at them is relatively harmless. Had it been the cops there instead of the lady, the result would have been the same-except it would have been 1 or more cops shooting at the moron.

Stores have been robbed with BB guns-some of them look just like a real gun, and idiots also like to take the orange tips off airsoft guns (or paint them black), which as resulted in more than a couple police uses of deadly force.

I'm sure some pro-criminal safety mouthpiece will be along shortly to wail and gnash his teeth about "irresponsible CCWers", but the fact is that the kid is damn lucky he didn't end up with a few extra holes in him, and the woman who had the real gun is lucky that it was a toy-her marksmanship leaves much to be desired.

would it be better if the senior citizen allowed the criminal to assault her? He did grab a gun and start advancing on her-pretty much fits the bill to make someone fear grevious bodily harm or death. Had he pulled the same shit with a cop, he would have still be shot at.

And why in the fuck does "society's" safety override the safety of the individual citizen? Doesn't the fact that indvidual citizens can protect themselves against deadly threats provide a net benefit to society? Think of the man hours the police would have burned (at substantial cost to taxpayers) trying to track down the assailant. And since the criminal has already decided that he isn't going to play by "society's" rules, isn't the damage he was likely to inflict through petty crimes (stop destroying the desert with your fucking trash). I would say that the net effect is a benefit to society.
