Easy access to great firearms for young people on a tight budget.
Edited on Sun Jul-24-11 08:52 AM by MineralMan
When you're young and just getting started in life, it's difficult to provide yourself with access to modern firearms. Other needs come first, and the firearms you're excited about are very expensive. You read the magazines and visit firearms forums on the Internet, but the terrific weapons everyone's talking about are completely out of reach for you. What's the solution? Well, you could get a good job and wait until you can afford to get your hands on those dream weapons. That could take years, though, in today's economy. But, there's an alternative solution that will not only give you access to state-of-the art firearms but even to firearms that are unavailable on the normal firearms market. Interested?

Join the Army or the Marine Corps. There is a recruiter near you. Request Infantry training to avoid being put into a specialty field that will keep you away from the real weapons of war. If you can make the grade, you'll be trained in handling all sorts of firearms and, with any luck at all, you'll be sent to a country outside the United States where you'll actually be able to use them for the purpose for which they were designed.

Don't pine for access to great firearms. Act now!

1. I think I read there is now a waiting list for the military
So anyone wanting a dream weapon may have to wait longer.

2. All the more reason to act right away. The longer you delay,
the longer you'll have to wait.

4. You're right. I forgot that, along with free housing and meals.
It's a terrific opportunity. You can quit eating Cheetos and Ramen in your mom's basement and get some quarters of your own, along with great mess hall chow. I don't see how an enterprising young firearms enthusiast could pass on this opportunity. That's why I wanted to remind people.

Too bad he didn't take my advice, I think.

And drop JDAMs, FAEs, HEs and the good stuff? Aim high!

likely be doing some sort of support work and wouldn't have access to cool firearms. I was in the USAF, and the only time in four years I got to fire an M-16 was in Basic Training. Most Air Force personnel never handle firearms after Basic Training. Nope. The Marines and Army are the way to go.

The SPs (not LEs) that guard the WSAs, flight lines and alert pads routinely train with all the Round Robin favorites. So do the FOs and Combat Controllers. You can still get there if you're willing.

really is.

16. I would have liked to have attended sniper training.
Unfortunately, due to my MOS (16R - Short Range Air Defense Artillery Crewman), I would have been placed low on the list for a limited number of slots.:-(

18. Or, you could join SASS
and have a lot of fun firing smelly, smoky, low velocity rounds from low tech antique firearms at a variety of targets.

Plus you get to wear a cowboy suit if that is your thing.

27. I've seen many Vaqueros and Blackhawks
You are limited to ammunition which will produce a muzzle velocity of 1000 fps or less.

And there are certain modifications to the revolvers which they frown on.

You can download their shooters handbook at their website.
