to have any sovereignist leanings at all, that I know of, and I've known who she was for years -- head of one of the biggest baddest unions here, the Public Service Alliance of Canada -- representing most federal public servants. That's one reason she was a good choice: she's been dealing with the bastards a long time. And she has a long history with the NDP.
But she'll pretty much have to go I expect. Don't need the diversion.
Of course, the Conservative benches have been warmed by a lot of former Bloc Québécois and Parti Québécois bums over the years. I was hearing about Maxime Bernier having been one or the other the other day ... ew, I've ended up at the Toronto Sun, but it's all the same:
http://www.torontosun.com/2011/08/03/interim-ndp-leader-remains-under-fireConservative cabinet minister Maxime Bernier, who was called out by the New Democrats Tuesday for his work in the office of former Quebec premier and Parti Quebecois leader Bernard Landry, said he can't be compared to the NDP interim leader.
Mr Bernier, he of the buxom ganster moll girlfriend at whose home he left (and never went back to get) top secret documents when he was unbelievably to start with Minister of Foreign Affaris, is back in the cabinet.
This one's just good for a giggle:

http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/Turmel+sovereigntist+fling+surprise+Quebecers/5199310/story.htmlInterim NDP leader Nycole Turmel's flirtation with the Bloc Quebecois should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the political landscape in Quebec, analysts say.
Turmel's support for the separatist party for several years is indicative of the province's larger embrace of nationalism.
University of Ottawa political science professor Claude Denis noted the NDP wooed voters in Quebec in the last election — including many Bloc supporters — by offering a new openness to Quebec's national identity.
"It's no surprise that someone like Ms. Turmel, who is a left-wing francophone Quebecer, was at one point sovereigntist," said Denis.
Bernier just can't quit yapping; what a moron:
Conservative minister Maxime Bernier, who once worked within the separatist Parti Quebecois government, questioned whether Turmel has a hidden agenda.
Yeah, she's a stealth separatist planning to take over the federal government ... from the opposition benches ...
The Bloc actually was for years a strong voice for the left in Parliament, notwithstanding anything else.
