Peanut shells irked Texas man accused of Durham murder

Young men shot were from my area so have been following case. Stupid reason to confront & murder someone.


DURHAM -- A Texas man shot two Pennsylvania football players, killing one, over peanut shells, said the district attorney in court Friday.

Turner and five other players were coming back from eating on June 23 when they encountered Gamez in the parking lot, said Assistant District Attorney Theresa Pressley.

Gamez was offended because the players were eating peanuts and were dropping the shells on the ground as they walked, she said.

Initially the players didn’t realize that they were being confronted. Gamez approached them, pulled a pistol and fired as they all ran away, Pressley said.

2. Humans have been killing other humans for no particularly good reason for millenia.

Most of the world is currently safer than they have ever been in history.

Hopefully we can continue to improve on that....

Even I, who tend to get all Harlan Ellison on litterers, and put my own cigarette filters in my pocket, would drop peanut shells on the ground. If I ate peanuts.

I might not doubt that most people who drop peanut shells on the ground in public would also drop any other debris they happened to want to rid themselves of, but yeesh, peanut shells ...

So what's the deal here -- if by chance he did have a permit to carry a firearm in Texas, which may be unlikely, it wouldn't have worked in NC anyway?

If he did have a TX CCW he was legal carry in NC.
