Oh. Dear. God. (horrible gun "training" video)
I came across this video on someone's blog:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kneuscttWgU&feature=player_embedded

Apparently, there's an outfit called "American Defense Enterprises".

http://www.americandefenseenterprises.com/

They brag that they instruct Seals, Marines, and SWAT teams, and that the Department of Homeland Security rated them "the number one trainers in the world" (er...plural?). Apparently they like to put their students through the "American Warriors Test" which consists of 7 hours(!) of continuous shooting. Anyhoo, check out the video at 1:30, noting the position of the female shooter in comparison to the other two shooters, who are behind her taking multiple rapid-fire shots at targets only a few feet from her.

Unless I'm misreading the shooting angles on this video, it's an example of violating gun safety rules on as fundamental a level as I've ever seen. I also love how the guy at 1:45 holsters his pistol, draws a knife in each hand and poses for the camera.

2. There is a group of people in my town that like to dress up in cloaks and practice sword fighting
in the park.

I also love how the guy at 1:45 holsters his pistol, draws a knife in each hand and poses for the camera.

He should be wearing a cloak.

So dorky.

7. Well, I did a bit of that back in the day
Mind you, it was LARP (live-action role playing) and we used what amounted to oversized foam rubber swords.

11. If they were LARPing they were just nerds (like me).
If they took themselves seriously and were ninjas-in-training, well...to each their own and have fun, but it won't stop me from pointing and laughing.

5. In real combat you sometimes have to shoot past a comrade.
The way you train is the way you fight. If you train to never shoot past a comrade then in combat you won't do it when you have too. So at some level of training safety becomes dependent upon the skills of the trainees.

some members do when they don't approve of the OP.

In the Gungeon it's especially true.

17. I guess it means
the post will never make the Greatest Threads section on the DU home page.

The whole thing is stupid. But it's used routinely in the Gungeon by the 2A crowd.

Edited on Sun Aug-14-11 07:40 PM by RSillsbee
(going by the number of targets) and surviving but other than that (and knife boy) they didn't look that far out there ETA Clearly, they are traing SWAT teams and such, not your average citizen who just carries for self defense

13. Their website seems to be aimed at civilians (at least in part).
As per their "about" page:

Men and women needing basic defensive handgun skills. Average citizens with solid defensive handgun skills who desire to improve their weapon skills dramatically in the shortest period of time. Anyone wanting to learn and/or enhance their rifle and shotgun skills in a combat environment. Military personnel needing to bolster the rudimentary training that they receive prior to their deployment. Law enforcement candidates and officers, after their departmental training has failed them, who need our specialized help to pass their qualifications course. Military personnel and law enforcement officers seeking to attain the highest levels of combat skills, enhance their own survivability, and gain an advantage for future promotions.

18. I'm not normally a fan of profanity, but under the circumstances...
In any case, he certainly had more self-control than I would under those circumstances! Whatever I said, the overall emotional content wouldn't simply be disgust.

(more likely, a screamed "Ahhhh! 911! Medic! Now!"

16. My impressions
This is NOT for a beginner. If you haven't had extensive training in some type of combat shooting (for civilians, Cowboy Action and USPSA competitions come to mind), I wouldn't even attempt this course. I definitely wouldn't want to be standing on a range with a bunch of newbies flailing loaded weapons. There are a whole lot of weapons safety rules that are being ignored in this class, partially due to what they are teaching.

However, once you get past the whole SWAT look, I think they are imparting some good information. for one, it appears that they are working to improve their student's target acquisition skills. They also teach teamwork.

Of course, this is only my opinion. I don't have experience in this type of shooting, so I defer to the real experts.

20. Multiple four rules violations
One that I know would drive actual SWAT team members bonkers is sweeping your team mates with the muzzle (2:50 was the last one I saw). Unless you're actually aiming at something, hold that gun at sul (preferable) or low ready. Personally I prefer sul, because you don't have the momentum issues you do with low ready.
