Teen fires gun after school

OPELOUSAS — It was an argument that started over something apparently mundane at a Thursday back-to-school summit that was meant to encourage eighth-grade students to make good choices.

Two Opelousas Junior High School students ignored that message, fought, and, although the fight was broken up, at least one carried that anger — and a gun — to school the next day.

When the final bell rang Friday, the mostly peaceful first week of school came to an explosive end when the teenage boys and their friends began arguing on the edge of the school property. Police tried to intervene and two 15-year-old eighth-graders ran and shot toward officers and the other group of students, Opleousas Police Department spokesman Detective Darren Zachary said. No one was hurt by the three shots that were fired, Police Chief Perry Gallow said.

Meanwhile, other OJHS students were standing outside, waiting for their buses or rides home, a 13-year-old student said.

6. I have a couple 16 year old 8th graders
a 15 year old 7th grader. One of those 8th graders actually failed science, math, and reading last year (7th) but the principal went ahead and promoted him to 8th.

3. Both my kids (along with the wife and I) fired guns after school yesterday.
It was a pretty good time for all four of us. We still need to shoot the new 308 and 7mm08, but the AR's and 22's got a pretty good workout.

7. If only there was some kind of rule
making it illegal for someone under 16 to have a gun without a parent's written permission. And another rule making it illegal to bring a gun to a junior high by a student. And oh, woe is me, if only there were a law against trying to murder someone. And let's not forget, we should teach kids that sharing is VOLUNTARY-you can't just take someone else's stuff because you want it. If they want to give it to you, uncoerced and of their own free will, hey, cool deal. But you can't just take it.

Also, Mom and Dad should probably cover the "don't shoot at the police" rule as well, since their kid must have missed that day at school.

" Police tried to intervene and two 15-year-old eighth-graders ran and shot toward officers and the other group of students, Opleousas Police Department spokesman Detective Darren Zachary said."

And 15 year old 8th graders? Really? 15 year olds at the START of 8th grade. So, any wagers on what productive and legal work these two fine upstanding citizens will be doing? Granted, with those multiple felony convictions and their obvious willingness to use violence to take what they want and more violence when they don't get it, hopefully they'll catch prison sentences long enough and often enough to keep them from actually killing some poor innocent bastard who didn't hand over his wallet fast enough.
