Poll question: Public Safety Poll #1
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 03:32 PM by lunabush
Most of us drive cars. How safe do you feel hurtling down a crowded highway at a high rate of speed in a 1/2 ton of metal, mere inches from other half tons of metal, controlled by asswipes you don't know, and that if you did, you wouldn't allow to pet sit your ex-wife's cat?

1. More pissed off than afraid
I have seen so many God-awful stupid things so often that the only time I lose my temper these days is when I'm driving.

I would probably have an increase of 25% happiness while driving if morons would learn what their turn signal is for.

2. Great day to ask me this question
Just a few hours ago I got rear-ended ago by a young man who appeared to be intoxicated or very hung over.

There was no damage to my big black SUV. The Ford that hit me had a little grill damage (from contacting my spare tire) and its license plate bore the imprint of my trailer hitch.

I told the guy to sober up before he drives. He started to get huffy about the damage on HIS car. I told him "That's YOUR problem. You're lucky I'm in a good mood or I'd have you thrown in jail." and drove off.

8. sorry slack
bad timing. It used to be after dark you could count on one in 4 (as some of the stat read)of each driver you encounter being intoxicated. I imagine those numbers aren't as scary today, bu geeez - and this in the daytime?

3. It's one of those things I try not to think too much about
Kind of like knowing in your head that each of your wheels is ultimately only held in place by a .79 cotter pin that holds the wheel bearing nut in place.

Or realizing that the person that last packed your wheel bearings, rotated your wheels, rebuilt your brakes etc. was probably the same guy that dropped out of school when he hit 16 and might have been out drinking heavily the night before.

If you stop to think about all that, along with watching them trying to eat their whopper, put on their make up, yell at the kids or read the paper you'd never get behind the wheel again.

Damn, now I've scared myself and will have to take the bus home. But who fixes the bus?

5. I Just Had My Third MV Accident In Less Than Four Years
1 - Rear-ended on the Interstate, March 2000. I was going 55 - the clown who rear-ended me was going between 90 and 100.

2 - Rear-ended at a traffic light in Colorado Springs, December 2002.

3 - T-boned some idiot who tried to make a U-turn in front of me, February 2004.

In all three cases, the other driver was cited for careless driving. I have a more-than-healthy fear of my fellow drivers, because I may not walk away from the next accident.

7. No
I choose not to own guns.

However, I do fear assholes with guns. And many of those assholes are pro-gunners who call in to local talk radio shows here in Colorado,

9. I fear drunk assholes with cars...
"When I Used to DJ in Bars Back in NJ from time to time, someone would come up to me and say "I just saw a sobriety check being set up on Rt. 15 north of here." So I'd announce it and suggest alternate routes."

...I also fear people who would help them get away with drunk driving.
