"Authorities link gunshot victimto armed robbery"

When a 20-year-old man came to a Bad Axe hospital on Friday night with a gunshot wound to his buttocks, he claimed he had been shot during a road-rage encounter with an angry motorist.

=========================================================

If it wasn't for some good police work and another stupid criminal this could have been used as an example
of why CCW is bad, bad.<-- (insert Bush Sr, as done by Dana Carvey, voice here)

1. Not Necessarily
If you had posted the first four paragraphs of this story, like most of us do in the "GITN" threads, everyone would have seen the true meaning of the story:

When a 20-year-old man came to a Bad Axe hospital on Friday night with a gunshot wound to his buttocks, he claimed he had been shot during a road-rage encounter with an angry motorist.

Police, however, said the shooter actually was a 65-year-old retiree who had been robbed by the 20-year-old in the elder man's home near Port Huron, some 80 miles away.

As a result of the armed robbery and the alleged bogus story, authorities in both Huron and St. Clair counties plan to charge the 20-year-old - and his 45-year-old father - with crimes.

The father and son both live in Sanilac County, according to police. The pair were in the St. Clair County Jail this morning, awaiting arraignment on criminal charges.

You see RoeBear, unlike Bush's handlers and the NRA leadership, pro-control folks like MrBenchley and myself don't have to resort to lies, half-truths and obfuscation to advance our agenda. Facts and the truth work just fine.

2. Where's the beef?
The 20-year old man was a criminal who tried to make up a story to cover up his robbery against an elderly man who defended himself. If his story had been believed it would have come out in GITN as an instance when a gun was used inappropriately, instead the truth is that a gun was used to prevent a crime.

I see no obfuscation on the part of Roe, only on the robber.

3. By Posting Part Of A Story....
...and trying to infer that those who disagree with him are somehow doing something dishonest, he was obfuscating the facts - IMHO.

4. How so?
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 05:56 PM by Columbia
The rest of the article backs him up even more than what he posted. There was nothing misleading in his cite at all compared to the rest of the article. The next few paragraphs only went into more detail.

On edit: I also see no claim of inference that those who disagree with him are dishonest, only that the robber himself was dishonest and that thankfully the truth was uncovered in the end (literally).

5. Re-Read The Original Post, Columbia
It was made in an attempt (albeit a poor attempt, IMHO) to make those who disagree with RoeBear look bad.
