Man allegedly uses stun gun on fans at Jets game
{CNN) -- In spite of heightened security due to a terror threat on the 10th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks, a South Carolina man was apparently able to sneak a stun gun into a professional football game and fired it into the crowd, police said Tuesday.

Leroy T. McKelvey, 59, allegedly used the gun on three men in an upperdeck scuffle at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, during a Sunday match-up between the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys, according to New Jersey Police Sgt. Julian Castellanos.

The three men suffered minor injuries, he said.

McKelvey was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a stun gun and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

This one has the video of the aftermath

http://www.wtam.com/cc-common/news/sections/newsarticle.html?feed=104668&article=9097190

and says:

The fan, identified as 59-year old Larry McKelvey, had upset a Marine sitting next him for refusing to stand during the National Anthem. Later in the game, when McKelvey tried to leave his seat later in the game the Marine refused to let him out and a brawl broke out. Check out the video below.

UPDATE: It turns out that Larry (not Leroy, as originally reported) McKelvey is the father of New York's Power 105.1 Breakfast Club DJ Charlamagne, and on Tuesday morning Charlamagne awarded his father (along with everyone else involved) with the 'Donkey of the Day' for his involvement in the incident. Check out Charlamagne's explanation of events: (audio)

Charlamagne continued the conversation on Twitter, writing, "I'm glad he had the taser. 4 guys jumping on a 59 year old man could of been fatal." For more of his reaction, check out his Twitter feed.

(I wonder whether he didn't really say "could have".)

Well, maybe not the most disinterested voice. And I couldn't actually follow it anyhow.

I told you football should be banned from the face of the earth.

Oh wait, it got slightly more intelligible toward the end.

The DJ did *not* award his father a hee haw, he expressly refused to. The father didn't stand because he's a JoHo. Well, regardless, nobody needs to have anybody else tell them what to do on that score, true. So the marine and his buddy were total assholes. Whether they actually assaulted him or threatened to assault him ... I'm not clear on that.

8. I had some acquaintences flip out over the Mennonite college removing the anthem from games.
They just can't stand how atheists like me are ruining their freedom to worship, and simultaneously, want to crap all over a religious college that practices non-violence as part of their religious freedom.

How my brain case has managed to withstand the pressure so far, I do not know. NASA should study it.

9. I'm not surprised that you feel football should be banned ...
as it is a somewhat violent sport.

Football is my favorite spectator sport which will probably not surprise you.

If I had to ban a sport, I would ban soccer as it is so boring.

17. football should be banned
... I dunno, just on general principles. More specifically, because it is unintelligible, it is almost as boring as golf, and the television stations that broadcast it seem to think that I need to hear crowd noise so loud and so unceasing that only AtheistCrusader's brainpan could withstand it. The only thing worse than the four-hour long din of the crowd noise on a televised football game was the vuvuzelas at the FIFA world cup. ;)

I watch soccer every weekend. Premier League. Whether I like it or not. I actually don't mind it. It's readily comprehensible, it doesn't need computer gimmicks on the screen to tell me what's happening, and it moves along nicely. When the channel gets changed to tennis, I move along out of the room. He promised me all those years ago in his very first email, unprompted, that he did not watch sports on television ... Fortunately, he almost never watches football. Or hockey.

20. I dunno ...
Does anybody watch the CFL? ;)

Hockey, bah. Goons. I watched Paul Henderson score that goal in 73. And I watched Wayne Gretzky bellow ........ "Fuckin' EH!" at the end of that last Canada-US game a couple of Olympics ago. Every three decades is about enough for me, after a childhood of Saturday nights full of it ...

12. Four on one?
And the one is a senior citizen? I don't blame him for defending himself with a stun gun. Good to see the stadium security was nice and tight-letting folks through with tasers on their hips. I wonder how many people brought guns with them.
