Someone asked about victories here the other day
Here's one: Judge blocks Florida law gagging doctors' gun talk

Seems the NRA/GOP/Gun Forums wanted to limit the free speech of doctors. Didn't take long for a federal judge to put a stop to that.

"(Reuters) - A U.S. federal judge on Wednesday blocked a Florida law limiting what doctors can say about guns to their patients, saying it violated free speech protections under the Constitution." http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/09/14/us-usa-guns-doctors-idUSTRE78D7W620110914

So along with this loss and the losses the NRA/GOP/Gun Forums faces with guns on campus I would say yup! There are still some victories to be had.

3. It goes beyond the First Amendment if doctors refuse service to gun-owning families.
Which is why that law was put on the books in the first place.

6. which never happened
did it. Don't make shit up to prove some point man. No doctor ever refused service to a gun-owning family. Seriously you should consider removing that accusation because it's so silly.

9. Here is a story of EXACTLY that...
This kind of incidence was the reason such a law was drafted.
http://www.ocala.com/article/20100723/news/100729867

It was a question Amber Ullman least expected Wednesday from her children's pediatrician.

Do you keep a gun in the house?

When the 26-year-old Summerfield woman refused the answer, the Ocala doctor finished her child's examination and told her she had 30 days to find a new pediatrician and that she wasn't welcome at Children's Health of Ocala anymore.

“Whether I have a gun has nothing to do with the health of my child,” said the mother of three girls.

The question about the gun had been the last in a series of health questions about Ullmon's 4-month old baby that Dr. Chris Okonkwo had been asking.

“And I'm upset because my children were discharged because I refused to answer the question whether I have a gun… in the house. It's a very invasive and a very personal question,” said Ullman, who works as a property manager.

18. unfortunately

From your own post:

"The question about the gun had been the last in a series of health questions about Ullmon's 4-month old baby that Dr. Chris Okonkwo had been asking."

It appears that this family just didn't like the questions the doctor was asking and became evasive. A doctor can "fire" any patient they want if they believe they are wasting their time on the care of said patient. I'll repeat, "last in a series of health questions".

This woman was pissed off at her doctor and used the gun question as an excuse. It's very common. If she was so pissed off why didn't she just find another doctor?

Last time, "last in a series of health questions" Tell you what, do you know what those questions were?

Yeah, sure, owned, LOL

20. "Don't make shit up to prove some point man."
Good advice - follow it if you're capable.

"No doctor ever refused service to a gun-owning family."

Umm, yes they did. That's what triggered the legislation in the first place.

You can make shit up and keep trying to recreate history in Ocala or New Orleans and it's still all BS. The gun control side has few and tiny wins for the last few years and it's going to stay that way, because all you people ever do is talk (and lie) about it and do nada to actually support your so called "principles".

Yeah, OWNED fits.

*eta: You might want to find previous threads on the subject- the doctor talks about why he turned the patient away.

16. What I see as piddly is the doctor being prohibited from saying anything
Now, if a doctor is refusing service to someone saying "None of your damned business", then I think there may be grounds for a new law.

5. And we just won a victory with New Hampshire overriding the governor's veto.
All your two "victories" did was hold the status quo. You didn't make any advances against gun rights. You did get a victory in California, but when the National Reciprocity Bill HR 822 passes that victory will be undone. Your side is losing. Have you seen my list of victories that our side has won in this year alone? Let me post it again.

17. Freedom of COMMERCIAL speech isn't quite as protected
This is regulating what a doctor can and can't say in the conduct of business.

Guess what, a lawyer can be punished for talking shit about a judge too.

False advertisement is illegal too.

Denying medical service because a patient wants to keep some information private is really loathsome.
