Homeowner shoots robber after wrestling gun away
By Deanese Williams-Harris and Muriel Clair
11:05 a.m. CDT, October 13, 2011

A homeowner in the Englewood neighborhood wrestled a gun from one of two robbers and shot him early this morning, according to police.

The robber was wounded in the abdomen and was stable as he was taken to Stroger Hospital, officials said. The second suspect fled, police said.

The two robbers approached the homeowner at about 6:45 a.m. as he was leaving for work in the 5700 block of South Ada Street, police said.

They forced the man back into his home and told him to take them to his safe, police said. When one of the men tried to open it, the man struggled with one of the robbers, got the gun and fired, police said. The other robber then fought with the robber and finally ran off, police said.

2. That was his only choice - no handguns in Chicago, remember?
The city is still dicking around with the new laws so you still can not own or legally possess a handgun in Chicago in your own home.

Just the way gun control people like it. The current legal bill for losing the city owes is around $400,000 and rising while they still fight obeying the SCOTUS decision.

Besides, if it's so easy why didn't they just take it back. Two of them one of him?

3. you didn't read the Brady talking point close enough
It says that the bad guy always takes the gun away from the good guy, but the reverse is never addressed.

It's not a solution I'd want to have to rely on full time. Maybe you're a ninja?

9. Owning a handgun is quite different from parading around in public with it.

10. "More proof people can defend themselves without packing guns in public".
What in the Sam Hill does either open carry or concealed carry have to do with possessing a firearm in one's own home? Non sequitur much, Hoyt?

13. So you're objecting to the Open Carry Fife and Drum Corps? I'll go along with that.
I hate seeing musical instruments in public.

11. Not germane to the discussion
This was in his house. Concealed-carry is not part of the debate.
