2nd probe surfaces in Bush-(moran)-era gun trafficking to Mexico (where was the GOP/NRA poutrage?)
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2011/10/2nd-probe-surfaces-of-bush-era-gun-trafficking-to-mexico-/1

The Associated Press is reporting on a second Bush administration investigation that involved so-called "gun walking" of weapons to Mexico, the same tactic for which the Obama administration is facing scrutiny from the Justice Department and Congress.

E-mails pertaining to a 2007 Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives operation out of Phoenix show that agents allowed illegal shipments of guns across the border into Mexico in a failed effort to identify higher-ups in smuggling networks. Earlier this month, the bureau's new director, B. Todd Jones, acknowledged ATF agents launched a similar operation in a 2006 called "Operation Wide Receiver.''

1. Old news, been posted earlier. Since you bring it up (again)...
I am completely in favor of opening up the debate as to why these earlier "gunwalker"-type operations occurred, who was behind them, and for what purpose.

I would suggest that any missing outrage over the earlier instances may have flowed from lack of MSM coverage; even with the current "Fast & Furious/Gunwalker" scandals, the coverage is so far spotty: CBS, L. A. Times, your reference, some others. You might want to ask yourself: Why is MSM still reluctant to bring this out in the open? Gun-controllers seem confused, here. On the one hand, they think the affair is a tempest in a tea(bag) pot, somehow NRA-inspired; on the other, they point to the earlier smuggling you referenced. Well, is it worth pursuing or is it NOT worth pursuing?

Clearing up that confusion may help to place the current scandal in proper prospective.

3. Maybe an additional questions would be
Did the whistle blowing agents say anything about it back then?
If so, where was Issa's and Grassley's Dem counterparts? We had both chambers IIRC, but our people did not do shit.

4. Maybe you should ask Pelosi why no investigation - she was in charge
If there was anything fishy, she'd be the one responsible for starting an investigation.

Maybe you should write her a nice long letter and share all your insights on how America really loves gun control and what a winning election issue it would be for us. I'm sure she'll take it to heart.
