Women, training, shooting better than men? What do you think?

1. I think if I do end up moving into the Metro area, I might register and buy a handgun.
Edited on Wed Oct-19-11 11:03 AM by KittyWampus
Edit- I'd also take classes in how to use it.

Although i doubt I'd carry it around with me. And I might just prefer a shotgun for the house.

4. Police arrive after the incident..
For home safety, I would protect myself. The police arrive after the crime has been committed
and then they don't seem to care. they seem to consider you lucky if you are still alive. Look at how many weeks and months it takes to catch a serial killer/rapist.

One question you need to answer: When someone is breaking into your home
and is intent on totally screwing up the rest of your life, can you shoot them?

If you can't, get a security system and one of those police locks that leans against the door and
makes it impossible to knock the door down.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

12. Excellent idea.
Consider where you live as well when you make your choice of home firearm. If you're in an apartment, you will want to make sure you keep penetration in mind. Even a 9mm FMJ will go through a few pieces of drywall and still have enough energy to cause harm. A 12ga loaded with 00 or slugs will definitely have enough energy to make your neighbor have a seriously bad day. In a freestanding home, you have a bit more latitude, but still have to keep ammunition choices in mind.

25. An excellent web site for woman who are considering owning a firearm is ...
http://corneredcat.com/Contents/

It contains a lot of good information on firearms in general as well as on firearm safety, basic shooting technique, cleaning firearms, how to carry concealed if you are a woman, children and firearms and the ethics of owning a firearm for self defense.

It is also an excellent site for men to check out.

3. I am an NRA instructor and had been shooting...
for about ten years, at the time.

We had just finished the training program for 12 people.
One of the other instructors offered to let me shoot some
rounds he wanted to get rid of and the woman next to me was
offered the same - we had a shoot-off.

After we had shot 30-40 rounds apiece she was only 3 points behind me.

I did say to her and her husband, "You need to understand that you just
finished your training course and you nearly beat me and I'm an instructor.
You need to realize how good you are and pursue this as a hobby if you
are having fun doing it."

I would say it's the frame of mind and having a feel for what goes into shooting that makes the shooter. Anyone can pull the trigger. It's how you pull the trigger and respond to the recoil
that makes you a good shot.

16. My wife can outshoot me
I have been shooting for 40+ years and she 7 years. When she first started shooting she could out shoot me if she could take her time between shots.

5. I think it is time
to buy Ruger stock.

Women, training, shooting better than men? What do you think?

Women tend to have better fine eye/hand coordination, which makes them better shots than men. The only woman to go through the Army's sniper school (an Air Force security police/air base ground defense, who took the class to be a counter-sniper, was the top graduate of her class. When (high school) girls have dominated Switzerland's Schützenfest since they opened it to females.

7. It's the lack of ego that makes them faster learners.
My wife is an excellent shot who picked up the sport very quickly.

11. There are also physical differences...
Edited on Wed Oct-19-11 04:43 PM by We_Have_A_Problem
...that make them better shots.

A man's center of gravity is at his chest, a woman's is at her hips. Women can hold a gun steadier than a man can.

Scary how quick they pick it up too. My 7 year old daughter, on her very time shooting, after the first 50 rounds or so, was easily shooting the centers out of targets. Granted, it was at relatively close range for a rifle (15 yards IIRC), but still....

My wife? Hell - she's ALWAYS been the better shot. She rarely hits outside the 9 ring. Yes, she's one of those who can draw a smiley face on the target at will.

15. "A man's center of gravity is at his chest, a woman's is at her hips."
Are you sure that isn't backwards?

Because a man's attention is always drawn to a woman's chest and what he can do with his hips.

22. My son's rifle coach is a woman; co-ed team.
She says women make better shooters because they have a longer attention span and they follow directions.

What was I talking about?

9. Once when I was at my local range a woman who
looked (and dressed) a lot like Angela Lansbury drove up in a big shiny Mercedes as I was getting ready to leave, checking out the pistols on display. I was curious enough to wait and hang around to see how well she handled her firearm. As it turns out, she did quite well. Seemed very comfortable loading her semi-auto, and though she wasn't ripping out double-taps she kept her shots consistently in the black. I was definitely impressed, and she smiled when we made eye contact while she was reloading magazines as she realized I was checking her out.

She represents a great example of what a criminal might perceive to be a soft target. Ooooooooooops!!!

10. The women that I have taken to the range ...
have learned faster than the guys that I have introduced to shooting. Women listen and they do not believe that they are already experts on shooting because they have watched violent movies since they were babies and they score high on one person shooter video games.

Once they overcome their initial fear of handling a firearm, women quickly discover just how enjoyable and empowering shooting is. Suddenly they realize that they may not need a big strong man available to defend them.

Now that many compact handguns of adequate caliber are available, many women are considering getting a carry license.

Florida has had "shall issue" concealed carry since 1987. It is surprising just how many women have carry permits.

He was at a Gander Mountain looking at various pistols, he looked up and was surrounded by several ladies looking from one end of the gun counter to the other. LOL
