106 counts of manufacturing a machine gun
http://www.kdminer.com/main.asp?FromHome=1&TypeID=1&ArticleID=47386&SectionID=1&SubSectionID=798

GOLDEN VALLEY - A local gunsmith is among six men facing a 106-count federal indictment alleging a conspiracy to illegally manufacture and distribute machine guns.

According to the July 2010 indictment, George Dibril Clark III of Golden Valley and Gold Canyon and five other men - three from Arizona and two from Maryland - "harvested" serial numbers from pre-1986 machine guns, thereby destroying them. They would then allegedly weld the serial number, or the entire receiver side plate, onto a newly manufactured gun, file the required forms with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, then sell the weapons.

Sander also states that Clark "admitted that he had done this for years and that he believed the serial number to be the actual gun."Nonetheless, according to Sander, Clark and the co-defendants had transferred the guns among themselves, "making slight and subtle changes to ATF Form 3 or Form 4 that would slowly change the description of the machine gun so as not to raise any red flags with ATF."

//

If I were the defense I be hitting the NFRTR with discovery like a screen door in a hurricane .If they approved a MAC11 Serial number for a 1919 RSP, who's to say they didn't approve hundreds of other transfers with messed up serial numbers . If for no other reason than to draw unwanted attention to the reams of errors at the worst possible time .

2. I agree...
I wish being an asshole was against the law. They would be brought up on about 106 more charges...

Then again... I've been known to be an ass hole.

3. Did they harm anyone?
Why are so many people willing to strip others of their freedom for exercising a constitutional right?

8. As it happens
another $200 tax stamp arrived in the mail Saturday. The Form 1 was mailed to Martinsburg on 16 May. The check was cashed 13 June and application was signed approved on 19 October. This is about as slow as I have seen them. And I have Form 4's going back to the Sixties.

4. It's been known for a number of decades that the NFRTR has some
serious issues. The ATF will not admit it because their people routinely testify in court that it is 100% accurate - they are ordered to do so.

This is also why many people have been asking for an amnesty period (as was written into the 86 law but never done) to give ATF an opportunity to get it all sorted out.

9. Everyone should buy their machine guns from terrorist and criminals.
The ATF and NYPD are sponsoring a set of tables at the local gun show this weekend.

13. These weapons command prices in excess of $15,000.
When an 99% identical semi-auto costs $600. This is the same problem we see in drug prohibition. They have legislated these weapons into collectors values, which breeds crime.

If we could still buy and register new select fire weapons, there wouldn't be a market for this criminal horseshit in the first place.
