I have a couple questions RE: the NRA
How many members does the NRA have?

How much money do they take in per year?

I need to find a website with these figures for something I'm working on so I can have something to cite to.

Grrrr... Reasearch sucks sometimes.

2. Well to be fair

you could break those non-members up into three groups: people who think the NRA is too extremist in opposing gun control, people who think the NRA isn't fighting gun control hard enough, and people who just don't give a shit.

On edit: Also, your number of gun owners is a bit on the low side.

5. The BATF claims 65,000,000 gun owners in the U.S.
Of course, that's LEGAL gun owners. I'm fairly certain that at least a small percentage of people did NOT obtain their guns legally.

9. Yes I did. I didn't find shit.
You'd think that a big time org like the NRA would be bragginag about its membership numbers.

14. Yeah
but they're not really big on facts getting out. Sound familiar. It's so hard to fool people when they know the facts.

7. I believe the generally accepted figure is about 60,000,000...
I've also seen it quoted as roughly 45% of American households own at least one firearm.

AP article from December '03 puts the NRA's membership at 4 million.

Now I need financials. How much does the NRA take in and spend per year?

10. Depends, really, on what you're counting.
Remember, their membership fees don't get spent on politics.

Do you mean political expenditure?

11. I'm talking
What they spend on mailings, TV ads, literature, etc. Baiscally what they spend on spreading their meme.

12. The last I heard the NRA had 4 million members....
I am not sure how much $$ they take in a year. I imagine the $ increases on an election year.

It should be available somewhere. I believe any organization that makes political endorsements is required to...I could be wrong.

13. They CLAIM 2 or 3 million
depending on the wind...but the real number and their actual financials are not available to the public...

This much IS known....despite sensational claims of growing membership, their annual klavern year in and year out draws the same 40,000 dreary inbred hillbillies, half of whom are EMPLOYED by the gun industry. And despite the claims of growing membership, the audited readership of its magazines (which is independently and publicly confirmed) is falling, and has been for years.

A recent newspaper story originally reported in the NY Times stated that the group was $100 million in debt...the racist imbeciles not only did not deny that, but attempted to spin it as a good thing.

I needed that laugh. "their annual klavern ", "40,000 dreary inbred hillbillies", "half of whom are EMPLOYED by the gun industry", "the racist imbeciles".

They have data on who give how much and to whom.
Look for them under PAC's, but remember that is only the cash given to politicians not their other safety programs etc shooting events etc.
