What is up with IL?
Edited on Sat Mar-27-04 09:45 AM by demsrule4life
Or should the question be is Mayor Daley slipping?

Gun curbs suffer setbacks

SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois Senate Friday approved legislation to allow retired police officers and former military police officers to carry concealed weapons, the latest example of a growing mood against gun control in the legislature despite the Democratic takeover of both chambers.

In addition to the concealed-carry measure, lawmakers in recent days have voted for bills that would lower the age to obtain a gun owner's permit without parental consent and allow a court to override enforcement of municipal handgun bans in cases where weapons are fired in self-defense.

Sen. Jeff Schoenberg (D-Evanston), a gun-control advocate, said politicians who have "traditionally stood for tougher gun-control measures, including the governor, need to rethink the existing strategies because the gains that we've made in the past are slipping away. Politically, we're overmatched.

The Senate this week did pass two minor pieces of Daley-backed gun legislation that would stiffen penalties against people who use guns to commit crimes. But more-controversial gun initiatives backed by the mayor are not moving.

2. Perhaps they've had an epiphany?
More and more people are beginning to realize that you can support the right to carry guns for self defense and not be a radical, right-wing "gun nut". Elected officials are starting to hear more and more from their constituencies that the people who put them in office are willing to toss them right back out because they feel the government is making it difficult, or impossible, to defend themselves against criminals while making life even easier for the criminals.

3. Nothing wrong with this...
..."The Senate this week did pass two minor pieces of Daley-backed gun legislation that would stiffen penalties against people who use guns to commit crimes."

As long as they are talking about real crimes and not crap like 'didn't have his gun case zipped all the way closed'.

5. Uh, dems...
Are you REALLY trying to pretend Mayor Daley is the governor of Illinois?

14. He is always trying to influence Springfield
he has done a good job of it in the past. Those days are coming to an end.

6. Is Mayor Daley slipping? He's slipped...all the way into the abyss!
Mayor Daley is the poster child for anti-gun paranoia. His city has some of the most draconian anti-gun laws in the nation yet his streets are still crime ridden cesspools of violence. Hmmm, perhaps gun control laws DON'T stop criminals from using guns to commit crimes!

9. Well given that...
would you feel safer and more comfortable living in Chicago rather than your current CO address? I ask this knowing your opinion of CO firearms laws.

10. I Don't Feel Safe Here....
...because this state is loaded with pro-gun assholes. If you listen to Sean Hannity's radio pukefest, you'll hear one of them quite frequently - he identifies himself as "Ron from Colorado Springs", and he's the best reason I know of for stricter gun control laws.

11. That wasn't the question I asked.
Let me repeat it: "would you feel safer and more comfortable living in Chicago rather than your current CO address?" Simple question... simple response.

I don't listen to Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh nor any other right-wing
talk show host. Nor for that matter do I listen to any Liberal or Left-wing talk show host... I form my own opinions based on what my experiences are and what I think is right. You seem to place a lot of personal opinion based on this "Ron from Colorado Springs" whom I've never even heard of until you mentioned him (numerous times). I feel sorry for you if this one person (assuming he's even for real), is enough to convince you that {b] all gun owners are like minded.

Never mind the accusations of fear or paranoia claimed by the anti-gun crowd with regards to law abiding citizens wanting to protect themselves from criminals. The real paranoia is law abiding citizens worrying more about other law abiding citizens carrying firearms than they do criminals carrying firearms.

15. It Concerns Me...
...that any private citizen - on either side of the law - feels the need to be able to kill another peron on a monent's notice.

Regarding your Chicago-vs-Colorado question, I don't know enough about Chicago to give you a simple yes/no answer. A decision like where to move for me would be based on a host of factors - gun laws would be very low on that list.

17. I feel the need to prevent being killed on a moments notice...
Contrary to what you may have been told in the media I am not out hunting people with my gun. I carry mine so I'm prepared to defend myself against those that are. What will you do if you, or your loved ones, are faced with an armed attacker or an uninvited intruder in your home? Dial 911 and pray the police get there before he kills you or your children? Will you use your baseball bat on the group of thugs attacking your wife? Perhaps your alarm system will save you, or your pepper spray. Condiments are always a good plan for self defense.
