Ad for gun training bars Muslims and Obama voters
A radio ad for a handgun training class that bars Muslims and Obama voters has sparked an investigation in Texas.

"We will attempt to teach you all the necessary information you need to obtain your ," the ad says. Then towards the end, it adds: "If you are a socialist liberal and/or voted for the current campaigner in chief, please do not take this class. You have already proven that you cannot make a knowledgeable and prudent decision under the law."

And then: "If you are a non-Christian Arab or Muslim, I will not teach you the class with no shame; I am Crockett Keller, thank you, and God bless America."

The ad ran for six days on KHLB, Mason's local station. It's also been heard tens of thousands of times on Youtube.

I'm a little torn on this one. On the one hand, the Civil Rights Act bans businesses from discriminating on the basis of race, gender, or disability (traits people can't change) -- but what about political or religious beliefs?

Part of me says if he wants to lose out on business from liberals and non-Christians, so be it, so long as he's not the only trainer in town. Let other business owners get more business while folks boycott his bigoted ass.

It will be interesting to see if any lawsuits develop.

1. My take is that Mr. Keller is getting lots of free advertising
He'll gain a lot more business than he loses, and I doubt that anyone has standing to sue him for it.

2. Personally, I think it's time for Liberals to stop crying every time someone says "I don't like you"
I know a lot of narrow-minded idiots who don't like me because I'm a liberal. Ask me if I care what they think.

17. Yea, but it's concerning when some Ahole like Crockett trains people to shoot folks.
Edited on Tue Nov-01-11 08:04 PM by Hoyt

I can guess what the silhouette targets look like, and I bet the trainees just laugh their asses off during the whole thing at Crockett's bigotry.

34. "trains people to shoot folks"?
You don't even know what a concealed carry course is all about. Most of the class is teaching how to avoid or defuse a situation. A lot of it is situational identification, when you can and can't use your firearms.

"I can guess what the silhouette targets look like,"

I'm sure you can BUT the state requires the targets in the link below so as usual, your guesses don't mean shit.

19. "I don't like you" isn't the point. Open racial and religious bigotry is.
More to the point, bigotry while acting on behalf of the state, supposedly providing necessary services. That's never acceptable, and he deserves to be shamed, boycotted, and have his instructor certification pulled.

If the guy had said he wouldn't train Catholics there'd be more reason for furor.

And that the DPS is investigating Mr. Keller with an eye to pulling his trainer's license if he's in violation of anti-discrimination laws.

13. To paraphrase Lisa Simpson , "I know those words, but that ad makes no sense."
Who's "the current campaigner in chief"? It can't be Obama, he's not actually campaigning at present; the only "current campaigners" are all Republican, and which one of them is "in chief" depends on what day of the week it is (and they say Romney's a flip-flopper...). Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if this ad was broadcast during Rick Perry's brief surge of popularity, i.e. while he was "campaigner in chief."

And what if you're a liberal, but not a socialist (i.e. you don't advocate common ownership and cooperative control of the means of production)?

And what's he got against Druze and Mandaeans?

See, these are the kinds of questions you raise when you don't use words the way they are commonly understood, but use them to mean what you (idiosyncratically) want them to mean.
