A.G. Holder renews call for border state gun-control.

Speaking before Congress, Attorney General Robert Holder continued to advocate for restrictions on multiple sales of semi-auto rifles from "border" state gun shops and dealers. This after some 2,500 firearms were allowed to "walk," move "fast and furiously," and "receive widely" as the result of the BATF's actions over the last 4 years. The agency charged with restricting "multiple sales" would be that same BATF.

"In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Mr. Holder criticized a recent vote by the House of Representatives to block a new regulation requiring firearms dealers along the Southwest border to report multiple sales of semiautomatic rifles. He also said lawmakers should increase financing for firearms investigation and strengthen “statutory tools” to stop the flow of guns to Mexico."

No further explanation was provided as to what specific "statutory tools" would be used, nor was there mention that these various "gun walking" schemes may be multi-jurisdictional operations as alleged earlier by CBS.

"Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the panel, rejected any need for additional measures. “This tragedy should not be used to call for new gun control,” he said. He also sought to keep the focus on Fast and Furious, grilling Mr. Holder about what and when he and other top officials had known about the tactics used in the program.

Fast and Furious was an investigation into a gun trafficking network, and was run by the Phoenix office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from late 2009 to early 2011. It was internally controversial because some A.T.F. agents believed they were not being allowed to move quickly enough to contact “straw buyers” and interdict guns because supervisors wanted to wait and identify kingpins".

On this Administration.

Eric Holder has been a blight on this Administration, starting with the revelation that he used to offer legal representation to the Death Squad people.

And then he decided to come to California and ignore our states' right protected mandate to have medical marijuana clinics.

Now he is trying to cover up the guns-to-the-cartels' activities, and it's obvious to many of us, that the man is either a big joke, or a blight.

7. Concerning "...need for additional measures"....

This is only speculation, but a few on this thread believe that A.G. Holder might be persuaded to take no additional measures in return for canning BushCo's similar "Wide Receiver" operation, and further, to end any probe which might show the activities of other federal agencies. Unsubstantiated so far are allegations that some or all of these operations were designed to intentionally funnel arms to one cartel -- La Sinaloa -- at the expense of another cartel, the Zetas. The latter cartel is by some measure now the most powerful group, and might be in position to bargain for formal power-sharing with the Mexican government. In other words, the arms would be used to somehow keep the Zetas from gaining formal power.

Despite the ATF, under the supervision of Holder, ordering the gun dealers to sell guns to unqualified people, with no involvement of a sovereign nation, and personally walking them across the border, where they were used to kill Mexican citizens and US law enforcement officers.

With all that, and lord know what else, It's somehow in your twisted mind the fault of the NRA?

You gun control people really live in another universe where the laws just don't apply if you don;t want them to.

given that most of the weapons are entering through their southern border and abroad(only something like 17 percent of all guns, not to be confused with guns traced, have been traced to the US.) Of those traced to the US, how many are civilian weapons from gun stores?
The real culprit is the drug war and the demand it creates. (or if there were simply no demand) The cartels meet that demand with supply and kill each other for market share.

On another level, why should my rights (which is academic since it would be a federal crime for me to buy a gun in any of these states) be restricted to try to solve a problem I do not contribute to? I don't buy drugs (even if I did, I would not from there), sell drugs, or sell guns to drug dealers.

1933 or 1937 (before any real federal regulation, the Revolver Act of 1927 was a bit of a joke) you would have had a point. given that federal regulations have been in place since the 1930s, local and state regulations have been in place since the founding (actually before). It is 2011, and there are at least four federal gun control laws in place.
