Shot with own gun, Clarksville man winds up in jail

After apparently being shot in the foot by his own gun, Montavius Deantre Harris of Clarksville was arrested Thursday on a charge of unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon.

Harris, 20, who gave a 520 Hietts Ln. address, had been issued a previous vandalism warrant and was booked into Montgomery County Jail. Bond was set at $5,000.

According to a news release from Clarksville police spokesman Officer Jim Knoll, Officer Teddy Burns was dispatched to the Gateway Medical Center emergency room regarding a man with a gunshot wound to his left foot.

According to the release, Harris told the officer that, as he was walking out of his apartment on University Avenue, a handgun he was carrying in his waistband fell to the ground and discharged one round into his foot.

Just one more reason to let stupid people own guns. The only guns I own are long guns. If I ever felt a need for a hand gun, I'd make damn sure it had a a fail safe safety. Either that or I wouldn't carry it where I could accidentally cause me harm.

Let's see. What sort of device could we design that would:

1. Stop an assailant or group of assailants.

2. Be easily portable and reliable.

3. If the assailant were able to leave the scene of the crime compel him to present himself at a location where he can be identified.

4. Let it be understood to all concerned that the employment of said device was only used under the most dire of circumstances, thus assuring that somebody will face serious consequences from the authorities as a result.

I can't imagine what sort of device that would be.
