Poll question: I need some info.
I'm want to get the school district to permit use of school facilities and maybe soon sponsor the Future American Rude Toters. (Can we hold the acronym wisecracks, please.)

Should I contact:

16. And how much precious time did you waste on these posts?
Maybe you could follow up with an article about how this is all a waste of your time.

4. I don't think you listed the proper authority.
This is a matter of personal taste and environmental aesthetics. Do they still teach home-ec? Maybe the head of the art department.

12. Let's face it.
I'm a pro-gun, freedom-minded, apparently not-so-humorous male living in the Fascist State of New Jersey. It's amazing we don't have a _11 hot-line to dial if one even sees a super-soaker/paint ball/pellet gun. :(

15. "Fascist State of New Jersey"
If I'm not mistaken, both the Assembly and the Senate are majority Democratic Party.

And ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_in_New_Jersey,_2008

New Jersey was won by Democratic nominee Barack Obama with a 15.5% margin of victory. Prior to the election, all 17 news organizations considered this a state Obama would win, or otherwise considered as a safe blue state. No fundraising money was spent by either campaign, as the state has trended towards the Democratic Party in recent years. A highly affluent and predominantly urban state with an ethnically diverse population, New Jersey has a tendency to lean Democratic. It is, nevertheless, a reliably blue state that was evident when Democrat Barack Obama won the state's 15 electoral votes by with 57% of the vote.

What dictionary are you using? Maybe we need to take up a collection and get you a new one.

17. a tendency toward strong autocratic control
New Jersey is a May-Issue state, and issues permits to residents and non-residents. Out of a population of 8,000,000 people there are less than 1,000 handgun carry permits in the state (including armed professionals other than law enforcement officers). While technically May-Issue under state law, Hawaii, Maryland, and New Jersey and certain cities and counties within California and New York are No-Issue jurisdictions in practice.

19. not always mutually exclusive
just not as much. While most Dems are liberals, a few are left of center authoritarians. Some are for the 99 percent on economics, but social conservatives. I don't know enough about NJ pols to know who is who. The rules do say we can give constructive criticism of Dems.

20. I guess I must have pointed out
something along the lines of how New Jersey is a strongly Democratic state, the people have elected Democrats to their legislature and voted for Obama, la la la la, and how I'm just not seeing anything there that indicates "a tendency toward strong autocratic control" ... and there was something wrong with doing that.

Who knew?

Hawaii ... that's another of those places with a Democratic governor ... two Democrats in the US Senate, two Democrats in the House of Representatives, Democratic majorities in the state Senate and House ... voted overwhelmingly for Obama (okay, hometown boy makes good) ... is there some evidence of "autocratic control" there? by whom??

Maryland ... Democratic governor, Democratic majorities in both houses ... again: ??

What evidence can you offer of this "tendency toward strong autocratic control" in these states? (I'm hoping you understand that autocracy and democracy are actually mutually exclusive, and hoping you can explain what you're saying while you're at it.)

Not doing your will when it comes to letting people wander the streets with firearms just won't cut it in this regard, I'm sure you understand.

Anything you've got to offer to help me see what I'm not getting will be gratefully received.

21. Neither the US....
...nor any state within it is a "democracy".

Along with the ideas of hope, change and progress (as in progressivism) the state of New Jersey (and a few others) have remained completely static on the issue of concealed carry. Over the last 30 years 29 states went from "non-issue" or "may-issue" status to "shall-issue" status. Two states went from "non-issue" to "no restrictions". Are over 30 states just wrong?

"I'm hoping you understand that autocracy and democracy are actually mutually exclusive..."

Well, I'm hoping you know the difference between a form of government and a political party but please feel free to neither explain, elaborate nor even answer at all. Obtuse answers, like obtuse triangles are frequently unattractive.

:donut: food for thought ;)

22. yeah, I hear that "not a democracy" crap from some quarters
and we all know what quarters they are!

So, is the United States or is any of its component states an autocracy?

Are over 30 states just wrong?

Uh ... ye-ah.

How many states were there in that Confederacy thing? Say, as a fraction of the total?

Or heck, maybe they weren't wrong.

How many states deny same-sex marriage?

Heck, maybe they aren't wrong either.

I'm hoping you understand that autocracy and democracy are actually mutually exclusive...

Well, I'm hoping you know the difference between a form of government and a political party

Well I'm hoping you do too!

Apparently you don't, though, since you seem to think "democracy" is a political party ...

23. Put you quarters back in your piggy...
...bank.

"How many states deny same-sex marriage?"

Well I don't know, but I think government needs to butt-out of marriage all together. New Jersey is one of those places that doesn't allow same-sex marriage and our REPUBLICAN governor wants to pass a Constitutional Amendment against it.

"Apparently you don't, though, since you seem to think "democracy" is a political party ..."

That's a nice straw man you have there, funny girl. :)
