How can this happen?
Fayetteville, N.C. — Gunmen assaulted two Fayetteville State University students in their dorm room early Sunday in the fourth armed robbery at student housing since last school year.

Fayetteville police are also investigating a shooting at a restaurant near campus Saturday evening in which no one was injured.

FSU prohibits firearm possession. I wonder if the Fayetteville police are suspected.

3. It seems like the local criminals found a friendly workplace for their chosen profession ...
Lets hope the word doesn't get around or we will see a lot more armed robberies in dorm rooms.

If you have a gun free zone, you should be required to provide adequate security.

5. Way back before...
the Internet and cell phones, I was a student at a rather nice university. It was an idyllic lifestyle free from care about anything but study. Every once in a great while you would hear of a student getting "robbed" or beaten up by a townie or even by someone from a more distant city. It usually had something to do with the victim owing the suspect a sum of money for a business transaction that neither side was willing to go to court over.

Most crimes don't happen at random. Either the victim has some kind of relationship with the offender or is an exceedingly easy mark. A student in a dormitory wouldn't exactly be an easy mark for a variety of reasons. And a student wouldn't exactly be a high risk high reward kind of target. Hmm...

6. FSU must be in a rougher neighborhood than
where you attended college. According to the article, this was the fourth armed robbery since last school year.

7. Maybe.
Or business could just be getting a bit rough. Cash flow can be a real stinker some times. It'll be interesting who winds up getting arrested for these robberies. I'm willing to be they are all related.

9. According to the FSU
student handbook, having a weapon (and there are a whole lotta "weapons" listed) is a Level One offense.

"Such offenses are considered the most serious violations
of the Code. A student found guilty of a Level One infraction may be suspended
from the University for a minimum of one academic semester. Suspension for
an academic year or expulsion may also result from the commission of a Level
One offense."

That'll give the crooks something to think about before they try again!
