NRA and Reagan

With this clear evidence of Mr. Reagan supporting the Brady Bill, a ban on shotguns and semiautos, and a ban on carrying firearms in public, it seems fair to ask:
Why is NRA republishing their 1983 resolution (issued, incidentally, 16 years after he signed the Mulford Act) where they proclaimed “President Reagan has forcefully stood by his convictions in support of the second amendment right of citizens to keep and bear arms for any legitimate purpose, including self-defense; and…vigorously rejects the myth that gun control is crime control…”?
And why is the Second Amendment Foundation telling its supporters, “President Reagan knew the value of gun ownership?”
Finally, some apologists are maintaining Reagan’s support for the Brady Bill was the result of his being manipulated in his senility by opportunistic anti-gunners and/or reporters. Some people will do anything to maintain their illusions—or to convince others that the illusions are true. The fact is, Reagan announced his support for the Brady Bill in 1991 and wasn’t diagnosed with Alzheimer’s until three-and-a-half years later—in late 1994. But this is a false argument anyway, as his support for the Mulford Act, which ended the open bearing of loaded arms in public places throughout California, took place a full 27 years earlier. The purpose of the poll and this article are not to denigrate the memory of a man literally revered by millions throughout America and the world. It is merely to establish the undeniable historical record that—in spite of the special place he evidently held in the hearts of gun owners—the man’s actions, as they related to the Second Amendment, did not merit it.

Can you name any Democrat that the NRA endorsed or got an A grade and a lifetime award that passed the first AWB, supported the Brady campaign and restricted CC?

1. The Reagan myth is being cemented into place by righties...
their historical account of Reagan is factual only in their alternate universe.

2. Yep. His legacy makes even Chuck Schumer blush.
Ronnie Ray-gun was certainly no friend of gun-owners, I don't know why so many gun-owners worship him and hold him up on some pedestal as if he was the perfect Republican.

Asshole tripled the national debt under his watch, something no president before or since has managed to accomplish.

3. just more evidence that the NRA
is a republican, right-wing, anti-liberal org.

Now that Obama has helped on 3 gun issues while president and if he doesn't take away your guns or gut the 2nd, as claimed again by Wayne Lapierre again, will they give him a life time award too.

8. Howard Dean was endorsed 8 times by the NRA..
would you claim his "Democratic Party credentials are justifiably suspect" too?

10. Now Wayne Lapierre wants to drop his
grade and throw him under the bus.

Gun Policy: Dean received an "A" grade from the NRA. However, N.R.A.. executive director Wayne LaPierre says Dean today is "totally trying to have it both ways." Yes, Vermont has some of the least restrictive gun laws in the nation. But Dean opposes a federal bill that would grant gunmakers immunity from lawsuits and supports background checks for buyers at gun shows—two positions that put him at odds with the N.R.A.. He agrees with most positions of Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.

I don't think immunity from lawsuits is Constitutionally valid either.

14. The SC has been silent for the most part until
1894, but it never ruled the militia only. Reasonable restrictions was always allowed and still is. All Heller did was draw the line between reasonable and unreasonable.
Grover Norquist as a sleazy tool for the Kochs of the world.

16. And what exactly do you believe is the USSC's interpretation?
That is a fair question since the first USSC case wasn't until sometime in the late 19th century.

18. Your post said, and I quote:
"I support the 2nd as interpreted by the SC for the first 200 years"

Problem with that is, there was no USSC interpretation for at least the first 100 years of this nation and your stated position is one at complete odds with EVERY USSC ruling on the topic.

Hence, the reason I asked for your clarification. What you said, simply put, makes no sense.

23. If the left wing is going to choose to be anti-gun
then the NRA is never going to support the left, and thus be anti-liberal

I can see why they give this a pass. He was pr-gun while President.
