CONCORD, N.H.—Officials from New Hampshire's public colleges and universities are urging the state's legislators to amend a bill that would allow people to carry guns on college campuses.

The bill being considered by the New Hampshire Legislature would extend the right to carry a firearm or other weapon on all public land and in state institutions, including public colleges and universities.

The Concord Monitor ( http://bit.ly/vFK1Ng) says opposition from officials at the University of New Hampshire and other state schools ranges from general gun safety concerns to worries about students' maturity and ability to handle weapons responsibly.

Republican (edit: douchebag) state Rep. J.R. Hoell of Dunbarton, a co-sponsored the bill, says the issue is protecting the constitutional right to bear arms and making sure that right isn't restricted on any public property.

How old do you have to be to get a CCW in NH? 21 in most places. If you are that immature at that age, you don't belong in college. If officials are that dismissive about their students, perhaps they need a new line of work. They still have every right to regulate guns in the dorms.

Now the control advocates are reduced to posting the attempt to repeal a battle they already lost?

I thought they bottomed out a few months ago when they celebrated getting CCW banned in one Wisconsin county court house. But this is pathetic. The state already ruled on it and a handful of poorly informed academics supported by a few fanatics willing to lie through their teeth, are trying to reverse the decision ... and that's a cause to rally behind now?

Hell, even here in Chicago the control people see the writing on the wall and are starting to figure how much revenue CCW will generate.
