Axe and spear gun stand-off
http://www.dailyexaminer.com.au/story/2011/11/28/axe-and-spear-gun-stand-off/

<snip>

The heated exchange intensified and Guest went inside his home but came back out moments later brandishing a loaded spear gun in one hand and an axe in the other, the facts stated.

Guest's neighbour backed down the stairs and was four metres away when Guest fired the spear gun which passed by the man on his right side.

Witnesses told police the neighbour then grabbed the spear-gun rope and pulled Guest towards him. He then grabbed his axe and tried to cut the rope.

The man then went back to his home, saying he was going to get "something bigger and better". He returned with an axe and a bow-saw, the police evidence tendered before the court stated.

<more>

:rofl:

4. Not so - this happened in Merry Old England - where they have *sensible* gun laws

Here in the US - these assholes would have pulled out their Castle Law Specials and blazed away at each other.

In the UK - not so much

yup

6. A speargun can be quite lethal.
I think you are implying that this incident didn't result in fatalities, where in the US, with firearms, it might have.

Well, that's bullshit. That speargun operates on the same principles as a firearm. That the user was incompetent doesn't make this a US vs. UK, oh look how much better it is in merry old disarmed England.

bad aim is bad aim.

7. England or Australia

The cite is to an Australian paper. I do not think you actually read these things. At any rate, not gun related.

3. This is how Thanksgiving ends in Valhalla
Yeah, I know it wasn't Thanksgiving. But this article isn't about guns, either, yet here it is.

9. If they used guns, one or two would be dead -- maybe more if they hit innocent bystanders.

10. And...and...if they used heat-seeking-armor-piercing boolets
then entire schools in a 100mi radius would've been completely obliterated.

But, since the story in the OP mentioned nothing whatsoever about firearms...

11. Well, it's a good thing they didn't have tanks then.
And that, class, is how WWIII started...
