On Tuesday Sullivan was arrested for dealing meth to a man for… Well, let’s just say it was for things I would rather not repeat.

That’s right; a power-hungry sheriff intent on taking your freedoms turned out to be a drug-dealing, male prostitute-seeker.

Former Sheriff Sullivan is now sitting in the Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. Detention Facility. That’s right. He’s sitting in the jail named for his honor.

A sheriff, as a country's senior law enforcement official, is supposed to enforce those laws that are applicable in his jurisdiction, and that implies that he should not violate those same laws himself. If it's a more severe offense in Colorado to solicit a prostitute of the same sex than it is to solicit one of the opposite sex, then yes, it would be more offensive because the sheriff violated a more severe law.

We can argue about whether it should be a more severe offense to solicit a prostitute of the same sex than it is to solicit one of the opposite sex, and personally I'm of the opinion that prostitution should be legalized and regulated anyway, but a law enforcement official damn well ought to abide by the laws, if only because otherwise, where does he derive the authority to arrest private citizens for not doing so?
