"Emily gets her gun"
Interesting set of articles documenting the tangled path and obstructionism one must navigate in order to exercise a Civil Right in the nations' capitol.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/guns/

First article is at the bottom, reverse chronological order going up the page.

"I want a gun. I don't feel safe living in Washington, D.C. and want to protect myself. I'm starting today by going down to City Hall to find the gun permit office to tell them, "I want a gun." This series will follow me as I navigate the city bureaucracy and outdated rules in order to legally buy a firearm.

My desire for a gun started when I had to face down over a dozen criminals on an empty cul de sac in Washington, D.C., armed only with a Blackberry.

It was New Year's Day 2010, and I'd been staying in the house to dog sit for friends who were on vacation. I'd returned from walking the dog when I saw a man coming from the house. "What are you doing?" I asked, sensing something was off with the situation. The Golden Retriever just stood next to me with a slack leash."

""Emily gets her gun" is a new series following senior editor Emily Miller as she legally tries to get her hands on a gun in the nation's capital."

3. Naysayers should point out any inaccuracies in the series
Because otherwise, they're rolling with the genetic fallacy...

4. When Media Matters claims that anyone can easily buy
a machine gun at a gun show without any questions (they have) or claim conversion kits are unregulated and easy to find online, that makes it automatically true, just that no one has told ATF yet.
Genetic fallacy. Antis can't work without fallacies. Oh yeah, AP is owned by the Moonies too.

11. And AP (esp. in Florida) continues its vigorous gun-control agenda.
Moonies have a "win-win" going here.

14. Actually, it's UPI that's owned by the Moonies
AP is "a cooperative owned by its contributing newspapers, radio and television stations in the United States," according to Wikipedia. Given that UPI is the second-largest US-based wire service, I suspect the Moonies would run afoul of anti-trust legislation if they also owned AP.

12. So you dislike it, but can't actually detail any fault with it?

Mary Hanchett Hunt would not approve of such slackness. The burden of Scientific Disarmament Instruction is on your shoulders!

http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/Controversies/Biography-Mary-H-Hunt.html

...Another textbook approved by Mary Hunt asserted that "One of the most destructive agents man has brought into use is alcohol" and explained:

"It has often been observed that children of intemperate parents frequently fail to develop into manhood or womanhood. They may not be deformed, but their growth is arrested, and they remain small in body and infantile in character. . . . Such are examples of a species of degeneracy, and are evidences of the visiting of the sins of the fathers upon the children, which may extend even into the third and fourth generations. "

Under Mary Hunt's direction, the WCTU's Department of Scientific Temperance Instruction promoted as scientifically proved fact that:

•The majority of beer drinkers die from dropsy.
•When it (alcohol) passes down the throat it burns off the skin leaving it bare and burning.
•It causes the heart to beat many unnecessary times and after the first dose the heart is in danger of giving out so that it needs something to keep it up and, therefore, the person to whom the heart belongs has to take drink after drink to keep his heart going.
•It turns the blood to water.
, a man who never drinks liquor will get well, where a drinking man would surely die.

Mary Hunt promoted compulsory temperance education so as to create "trained haters of alcohol to pour a whole Niagara of ballots upon the saloon." To this end she required that textbooks she approved "teach that alcohol is a dangerous and seductive poison; that fermentation turns beer and wine and cider from a food into poison; that a little liquor creates by its nature the appetite for more; and that degradation and crime result from alcohol."...

13. Did you bother reading the articles...
...or do you just assume that since she is taking the time to go through the process, she must be an NRA plant, put in place solely to undermine your cause?
