A California man accused of pointing a gun at a girl neighbor and then shooting her dog was sentenced to six years in state prison, authorities said.

Officials said States, on May 25, had taunted the child’s female Terrier mix, “Smalls,” who then began barking at States.

The girl ran inside when States drew a handgun, then fired a round at the dog, which, afterward, also ran indoors.

Authorities said States then went inside the girl’s home, pointed a gun at her as she held Smalls in her lap and threatened to shoot the animal.
