Westside man shoots wife before killing self
Westside man shoots wife before killing self

A 21-year-old mother of an infant child was in critical condition this morning after being shot in the head by her husband, who killed himself a short time later.

Marion County Sheriff's Lt. Bob Hendrickson said the shooting occurred only a week after the woman, Azucena Hernandez, 21, 5800 Beachway Drive, had been assaulted by her husband, Jose Hernandez, 22.

Deputies had then searched the couple's Westside apartment complex but had been unable to find him.

Detectives believe he had been staying with friends.

Hendrickson said Jose Hernandez called a cousin before the shooting and said he wanted to see his child. He and the cousin then went to his wife's apartment where Hernandez pulled a gun, threatening to shoot his child and his cousin before shooting his wife.

1. Murder suicides are sad, but what new law would have prevented
the cited incident?

3. actually
It is fairly easy to 'swarm' a person with a gun, especially within the confines of a house or apartment.

4. And it's also
fairly easy to jump off a cliff, but you won't find me doing either!

5. Well
I never said it was entirely safe.

But then swarming someone with a knife is not entirely safe either.
