And yet another cop's gun stolen.
Crooks will ALWAYS find ways to get guns.

1. Why are they allowed...
to take guns home? They should be secured in a safe at the station. Instead, we have cops killing their wives with guns, their children killing each other with their father's gun, and they're also losing guns.

to let less trained, more neurotic loonies pack heat, eh?

Boy, those guns turned out to be one swell deterrrant to crime.

8. And some cops are supposedly better trained than others

Hundreds of FBI weapons and laptop computers have been stolen or lost over the last decade, including one handgun used in a homicide and at least one laptop that contains classified information, Justice Department and FBI officials said yesterday.

Nearly 450 firearms are missing -- including pistols, revolvers, assault rifles and shotguns, officials said. The list includes 184 weapons stolen from agents' cars and homes, one of which was used in a slaying in the South, the only crime connected to one of the FBI guns, officials said.

An additional 265 weapons are unaccounted for. Many apparently were improperly kept by FBI agents who retired or were fired. FBI officials said they would pursue prosecutions of those former agents.

Thirteen of the 184 missing laptops are also believed to have been stolen, including one that contained classified information related to two closed espionage cases and three others that may contain secret files, FBI officials said.

3. Because they
are always on duty. They are sworn officers of the law, they can arrest a lawbreaker at any time. Say he's at the 7/11 in civvies, buying diapers for his kid. An armed robber is there. He stops the robbber.

12. Let's see my thirty years of Law Enforcement
to your what? I think I have a better idea what goes on in police depts then you do. Several cops in several depts are in prison today for selling guns taken out of evidence rooms and sold to gang members.

PA Attorney General's Office: Westmoreland County Deputy Sheriff Charged With Stealing Guns From Evidence Locker
HARRISBURG, Pa., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Attorney General Mike Fisher today announced that a Westmoreland County Deputy Sheriff has been charged with theft for allegedly stealing seized weapons from an evidence locker and selling the guns to an area gun dealer.

Fisher said agents of his Bureau of Criminal Investigation have filed criminal charges against Luigi "Gino" Ferrari, 40, of 1xx7 Saybrook Dr., Greensburg. Ferrari is a Westmoreland County Deputy Sheriff and holds the rank of sergeant.

The charges allege that in the fall of 1996 Ferrari, who was in charge of the evidence locker in the Westmoreland County Sheriff's office, falsified documents and stole 15 unclaimed weapons from the locker. He allegedly gave some of the weapons away and sold others on consignment to a local gun dealer. The charges allege that in 1991 Ferrari stole one gun.

The charges allege that several of the weapons that Ferrari stole were obtained from individuals who were served with protection from abuse orders (PFA). Fisher explained that when the Sheriff's office served a PFA order they would seize or confiscate weapons or guns from the individual. The weapons were logged in the Sheriff's office and kept in the evidence locker. Upon the expiration of the PFA order, a notice was sent to the individual to claim their weapon within 30 days. If a gun remained unclaimed, a court order to destroy the weapon was to be obtained. The Sheriff's office was supposed to take the weapons to a foundry to be melted.
And a few more stories of how well trained cops are with guns. http://hematite.com/dragon/policeguns.html

Hey, everybody, we have to let every neurotic carry a handgun whenever he wants one because the criminals have FIFTEEN guns.

By the way, helluva credible source you've dredged up there...

"Hematite has been used to decrease inflammation, drawing out heat from a feverish part of the body. It is said to dissolve negative energy and to work as a shield of armor for any person or thing "

14. what is acceptable?
Would the steps taken by a former LEO to ensure her family's safety, without any documented threats against that LEO, be considered "neurotic"? Would family members who heed that LEO's advice to be concerned about their personal safety also be considered "neurotic"?

Would the carrying of pepper spray or folding knives for personal defense warrant the carrier being labeled "neurotic"? Or people who get those Brinks home alarm system thingies? Does the neurotic label only apply to firearms owners?

Just curious.

actual steps that could cut down on gun crime are not of any interest, since they involve "The pre-confiscation agenda of gun-owner registration"

I think you've answered your own question, more eloquently than I could.

24. How many examples do you need?
DO you know how Police Departments decide what level of bulletproof vests they issue to their officers? They base it on being able to stop the Officer's gun fired into the vest at point-blank range. Either they're concerned with the officers trying to commit suicide by shooting themselves in their bulletproof vest, or they're worried about criminals getting the officer's gun.
