Devil made me do it - pastor

The devil apparently took over when a Pretoria youth pastor started touching a teenager on a bed a few of them had made on the floor.

The 19-year-old teenager said in evidence in Pretoria regional court on Thursday that Walter Thomas Stander, 35, pushed his hand into her nightie and touched her breasts and private parts.

She said Stander told her the next day the devil had attacked him and that she shouldn't make a scene, because he could lose his job.

Stander is appearing on charges of rape, attempted rape, indecent assault and being in possession of heroin. He is serving a 16-year prison sentence because he murdered his wife.

The problem is that "tempted by Satan", combined with "Jesus is my savior" gives Fundies carte blanche to do anything they want to, then say it was Satan's fault, or shrug and say that they know they have been forgiven.

3. Actually, I think that many Fundamentalist grow up in such a repressed

atmosphere, that it creates tremendous issues for them. I think it was Carl Jung who said that Fundamentalism was a kind of sickness.
