Police Chief Leaves Loaded Gun In Library
"Police Chief Jeanne Miller was studying at the Reynoldsburg Library. As she drove off, she remembered she left something very important behind -- her gun.

Now she's waiting to find out if she'll be disciplined for the mistake...

Reynoldsburg Police Chief Jeanne Miller admits she left her loaded gun inside the Reynoldsburg library on January 3rd. Reichard headed the investigation, and is convinced no one touched the bag, when the chief left the library.

"She left, She forgot to take the bag with her. She got in her car as soon as she hit main street, she darted back," Reichard said."

I have mixed feelings about this....We all make mistakes, of course, and nobody was hurt in this instance. Moreover, she seems to have been as open and honest about the situation as possible....But a Chief of Police should really be more focused than to leave their gun behind, even if it's in their bag, when they leave a library (or anywhere else).

One thing that staggers me though:

"The safety director says she isn't sure if the police department has a policy regarding how weapons should be secured while officers are off duty. But, according to Reichard -- that could change.

"It's something we could consider but that's for another time.""

Yeah! Fuck it! No need to make any rules or anything about how cops store their guns when they're off duty............

"Gun-toting cop admitted dependence on alcohol

"It is difficult to get a gun license in Brookline, even with spotless criminal records. But Brookline Police Officer Steven Kaplan was carrying a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson hand gun, for which he was fully licensed - even though he admitted being "dependant on alcohol or drugs," when he was arrested in Framingham last month.
Framingham Police documents obtained by the TAB show that Kaplan answered "yes" when asked by officers if he was dependent on booze or drugs. Kaplan answered the inquiry as part of a "Suicide Evaluation Form" that was filled out when he was arrested on Jan. 5 on charges of malicious destruction of property and disturbing the peace."

2. Good thing for her...
that she wasn't sitting in the childrens section of the library.
If she had been, there would have been ample excuse to revoke her carry permit.

4. And I assume she decides on CCW matters?
Absurd. She ought to have her ccw pulled, as would likely happen to anyone else who did the same. In a library of all places.....

5. Priorities. Priorities. Priorities.
When the top cop in any jurisdiction obviously has things other than public safety occupying his/her mind, especially when packing a hogleg, it's time for that cop to consider a career change.

It's obvious that either her training was deficient, or she missed the part of the class that dealt with being aware of both the location and condition of her firearm(s) at all times.

When you're packing for any reason, being aware of and safeguarding your firearm is paramount at all times.

Reminds me of a fellow I hunted with once. We made a dry camp in AZ (elk hunt). He made usual trip to the bushes and forgot to take his .45 LC off his belt before he took the position. That's one cleaning job I'd never want to tackle.

10. If she wants to carry...
That should be her option.

If she chooses to carry, she should be willing to adapt her wardrobe to secure her weapon.
