Is Israel planning Iran strike?
Israel has proposed to the United States to strike Iran on several occasions this year, Saudi newspaper al-Watan reported Sunday morning.

According to the report, the latest proposal was raised during the Knesset Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee’s visit to Washington several days ago, where Committee members apparently attempted to “market one agenda: Launching a war on Iran.”

The newspaper quoted Knesset Member Arieh Eldad saying that “nothing will restrain Iran aside from the use of force” and adding that Teheran’s nuclear project will not end “unless it is convinced it will be destroyed through military force.”

Meanwhile, Knesset Member Yosef Lapid reportedly said threats of sanctions and isolation have no effect on Iran.

“We won’t accept the fact we need to live under the threat of an Iranian nuclear bomb and therefore we feel we should warn our friends we don’t see any solution except for acting on our own,” Lapid said according to the Saudi report.

So Israel attacks Iran and Iran retaliates...oh wait, there's something between Iran and Israel...

Thousands of our kids in Iraq.

How brave.

2. I would make sense
...since they both want to take Iran out. Israel is certainly capable of launching a swift tactical attack against key Iranian targets. They would not have to deal with the level of political fallout from a growing antiwar attitude at home as the Bushies would. (Not that BushCo has shown any signs that they give a rats ass other than political worries over the midterms.)

Then the Bushies could feign surprise over the attack while still insisting that they were attempting a "diplomatic approach." It actually makes more sense for Israel to attack Iran than the US.

In my personal opinion, an attack on Iran is both unwarranted and ill advised...So it will likely happen as I am a perfect contrary indicator.

The madness never stops.

9. I'm glad
I'm glad I can come to a "progressive" board to hear the ancient anti-semitic canard that the Jews are once again manipulating non-Jews to do their bidding...

11. You called it right.
"The Protocols..." are alive and well with some of the loonier and kookier self-nominated, so-called "Progressives."

5. And what's the US going to use?

We can't even bail out our people-- where reporter Kim Sengupta writes:

Relief efforts to combat Hurricane Katrina suffered near catastrophic failures due to endemic corruption, divisions within the military and troop shortages caused by the Iraq war, an official American inquiry into the disaster has revealed.

The confidential report, which has been seen by The Independent, details how funds for flood control were diverted to other projects, desperately needed National Guards were stuck in Iraq and how military personnel had to "sneak off post" to help with relief efforts because their commander had refused permission.

The shortcomings in dealing with Katrina have rocked George Bush's administration. Michael Brown, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, has resigned from his post and polls show that a majority of Americans feel the President showed inadequate leadership.

The report was commissioned by the Office of Secretary of Defence as an "independent and critical review" of what went so wrong. In a hard-hitting analysis, it says: "The US military has long planned for war on two fronts. This is as close as we have come to (that) reality since the Second World War; the results have been disastrous."

So, where are the troops going to come from for the fourth quarter bail out?

8. I can not ever remember...
hoping for conflict or escalation. Discourse is much more cogent when we stick to what we know.
