Israeli official: Response to bombings will be 'harsh and swift'
NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will convene his security cabinet for an emergency meeting on Thursday afternoon, to weigh Israel's response to Tuesday's suicide bombings near Tzrifin and in Jerusalem that left 15 people dead and dozens wounded.

<img src="http://dclk.themarker.com/event.ng/Type=click&FlightID=10232&AdID=14510&TargetID=1794&Segments=39,143,288,316,584,1933&Targets=1097,1794&Values=31,46,51,60,72,84,93,100,110,150,309,317,486,1168,1180,1209,1219,1237,1248,1257,1258,1293,1362,1461,1473,1507,1533,1560,1591,1792,1798,1893,1916,1922,1955&RawValues=SITEID,haaretz&Redirect=http://www.jcupid.com/servlet/afds%3Fafid%3D16%26fwd%3Dh">

Sources who accompanied Sharon on his curtailed visit to India said before leaving New Delhi on Wednesday that Israel's response to the bombings would be harsh and swift. The source said that a response was expected during the course of the coming weekend.

Before flying home to Israel, Sharon said that Israel "will do what needs to be done. We will make every effort to put an end to terror."

Asked to respond to the growing calls for the expulsion of Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat, a senior member of the Israeli delegation to India said that "a decision will have to be made about him. Arafat is the main hindrance to the peace process, and we have seen how he brought about the resignation of Abu Mazen. Arafat continues to advocate a strategy of terror as a means of exerting pressure during negotiations, and he will not be allowed to succeed."

1. sounds exactly like Hamas
"Our response will be harsh and swift"

"Our response will be painful"

"Our response will send a strong message"

Fill in the blanks as to who is saying what. It's all the same in the end: Radical militants murdering innocents on the 'other side' of the conflict.

The only difference is that the United States sends billions every year to one group of radical militants (the Israeli army) while condemning the other radical group as "terrorist". Therefore, the US is complicit in the war crimes and atrocities which Israel commits.

3. wrong
Does the United States sends billions every year to the radical militant group knows as the Israeli army? Yes.

Does the US turn and condemn the other radical group (Hamas) as "terrorist"? Yes.

Is the US complicit in the war crimes and atrocities which Israel commits? Yes.

Do you think that just calling someone's post a "load of excrement" automatically makes it so? Please don't insult our intelligence like that anymore. It's a waste of everyone's time.

9. How much does the US spend on Oil?
While your definition of terms is rather unacceptable, you should also view the global picture.

http://www.fas.org/asmp/library/articles/BAS-jf2003.pdf

As a major contibuter to the GNP of Saudi Arabia, the US should first of all curb it's own habits, especially relating to patroleum consumption. So called "war crimes" are not an automatic label to whip out when you disagree the national defense of a nation.

10. Viewing the "global picture"
does nothing to help your defense of Israel's war crimes.

And are you serious about thinking that my calling "war crimes" what every human rights group in existence calls "war crimes" when referring to Israeli atrocities and aggression is only an "automatic label to whip out"?

Do you place ANY priority on human rights? This isn't about Israel's "national defense" - it's about Israel's AGGRESSION - how can you possibly not see it? I am stunned to see how utterly misinformed people are around here. Do you not see the reports coming through here from groups like Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch? Do you not see the condemnations and resolutions which the UN passes against Israel for the war crimes and atrocities it commits? Do you not see the news reports about homes being bulldozed and missiles slamming into crowds of innocent people? Of Israeli settlements going up on land that does not belong to Israel? Do you not read the reports from human rights workers describing the miserable situation for Palestinians which is directly created by Israeli actions? Just how in the world could anyone possibly be so blind to all this and continue to defend all these crimes, human rights abuses, atrocities, and often even terrorist acts as only "national defense of a nation"? Do you not see that this way of thinking is precisely how Hamas views their attacks on Israel? For them it is defense of Palestine. But they are blind to the killings and the suffering which they commit on innocents.

Oh wait. You are the one who thinks "God gave the land to Jews" aren't you.

Nevermind.

12. HR Groups
Apparently you haven't read the latest reports very carefully. Check it out and see where how the Palestinians commit crimes against their own by allowing militants to operate in civilian centers. Escape into civilian crowds, and on and on. The greater offences by far are committed by the Palestinians. Or how they murder their own people for suspect collaboration.

I don't believe that attrocities commited by the Palestinians are acceptable to G-d.

No, you haven't seen the condemnations, resolutions, judgements and news reports. I urge you to start looking.

Are just that. Many from the Arab world. Why should that affect me? They want Israel destroyed and all Israelis dead.

that you don't care what anyone thinks - the Arab world, human rights groups, the UN, world opinion - it's all about looking the other way as Israel continues the aggression and ethnic cleansing to clear out that land which G-d gave to Jews and nobody else.

My only question for you now, Gimel is - why don't you come on out and just admit it? Seriously - why hide behind the false curtain of "fighting terror" and "defending a nation"? Most everyone sees through it anyway, just like we see through Bush's lies of "liberating Iraq" and - well, "fighting terror". You might find your arguments more compelling to others, who knows.

29. false curtain?
My opinions, you don't have to agree with them , are not hidden. I do happen to believe that Israel is under a greater threat of terror attacks than say the US. It is also the opinon of professionals, who place Israel as number two in the world where terror attaks are most likely to take place. Last week proved them correct. They missed on Iraq and the UN.

You have carried your grudge against Israel for a long time. The confict is not one of "aggressor Israel v. victim Palestinian children" as you are so often painting.

World Opinion you claim is on your side. Public opinion in the US is easily molded by the media. I am not overly concerned about it. It's the children's future that is more important. Peace is a necessity, but it won't happen by making Israel the scape goat.

11. I can't begin to understand the US and oil
What we spend in the middle east on "defense" (read oil interests) is on a magnitude of nearly one-hundred times greater than the worth of all the oil in those sands. We don't even use that much middle east oil.

Corruption is the only explanation I've ever been able to come up with and even that seems incredible.

And actually try and explain why you think that last statement was a load of excrement? It seems pretty clear to me that the US is complicit in any war crimes that Israel commits, so maybe you'd like to explain how they're not complicit?

Absolutely they would be complicit.

(Note - I do want to make sure we are differentiating here between "Palestinians" and an extremist group like Hamas)

24. Heh heh.
I can see the contributions flowing in now.

But seriously, when considering firing Hellfire Missiles into
crowded residential areas, would you not think accuracy would
an essential feature? The sons-of-bitches have missed, over and
over. People should be court martialed, fired, for this sort of
shit. And that has jack squat to do with armchair generalship.

Since we all "regret" "collateral damage" I wouldn't think that
would be a contentious issue.

Please provide some supporting evidence to bolster such an accusation.

Are you saying Israel tried to hit innocents under the guise of ridding the area of hamas trash?

27. that is my opinion
the evidence for me is gathered solely on my own observations of the current conflict, and I fully expect this opinion to be a matter of dispute: that being said, let's remember that this is a nasty, right-wing regime led by the man bearing personal responsibility for the Sabra and Shatila massacres - I don't expect he has changed his tune since then. Do you?
