Olmert: We will freeze spending on West Bank construction

Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Tuesday that his Kadima Party, expected to form the next government, would stop spending government funds on construction and infrastructure in the West Bank.

"It's no secret that we won't invest in coming years the same sums we invested in construction and infrastructure development in areas over the Green Line," Olmert said.

In a speech at a Tel Aviv conference on infrastructure projects, Olmert said that money spent on settlements would be diverted to the Negev, Galilee and Jerusalem regions in the coming years.
