10 September – Condemning two suicide bombings in Israel, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has called on Palestinian militant groups to halt “these despicable and indiscriminate actions, which not only spread death and misery but harm the legitimate national aspirations of the Palestinian people.”

“He reiterates his insistence that both sides should fulfil their obligations under international humanitarian law to protect civilians,” a statement issued by a spokesman for Mr. Annan said last night following the attacks, which killed at least 12 people and injured many more.

“The Secretary-General takes this opportunity to reiterate his passionate conviction that peace and security in the region can only be achieved through political dialogue.

3. The reason this is news . . .

. . . is because it's so out-of-whack with what one usually hears from the UN. I'd suspect that the only reason that this wasn't somehow blamed on Israel is because this was Koffi Annan himself, and not the Security Council or General Assembly (mostly the latter). If you don't believe that there is a UN bias against Israel then I'd suggest you go to the UN's website and just start reading it's proclamations.

On Edit: And btw, the UN isn't filth, but it's pretty close to it.

This sort of thing is definately not out-of-whack for the UN. I'd suggest you go to the UN website and read some of what it's had to say on terrorism before trying to tell us this is a rarity. And just in case yr not aware, the US has vetoed resolutions condemning terrorism. But I'm sure you've already read that, seeing as how yr so familiar with what the UN does and doesn't say...

Annan has condemned suicide-bombings before, so it's nothing new. I get the feeling that no amount of condemnation would make you happy, because the UN also condemns Israeli violations of international law, hence making them in the eyes of some who like to keep their eyes glued shut totally one-sided and anti-Israel....

Don't suppose you will be laughing when the UN chooses not to support the US in Iraq. And with Germany, France and Russia all in the security council that might not happen unless Bushco secedes control to an international body. But that won't happen. Will it?

Israel has violated many UN resolutions and continues to do so. More than Iraq ever did.
