An IDF aircraft early Saturday destroyed an empty building in the northern Gaza Strip used by Palestinian militants during rocket attacks, the army said. There were no reports of casualties.
The army said militants had used the building for cover after firing rockets into southern Israel. Palestinian security officials confirmed the building had been targeted but said the Israeli missiles fell in a nearby field. Witnesses said the building suffered some damage. The officials said no one was hurt in the attack.
In another attack on Saturday, IDF artillery and navy ships targeted access roads to rocket launch sites in Gaza City, Army Radio said. There were no injuries in this operation either.
Late Thursday night, the IDF began shelling suspected Qassam launch sites near built-up areas in the Gaza Strip, as part of a policy of increasing pressure on Palestinian militants, who for the first time fired a 122mm Katyusha rocket, a much longer-range projectile than the Qassam, from the Gaza Strip into Israel last week.
