Keeping It Quiet: The Israel Lobby's Crushing of Dissent
Keeping It Quiet: The Israel Lobby's Crushing of Dissent
Charley Reese

April 1, 2006

The first weapon of choice for the Israeli lobby when someone with prestige publishes a soundly researched paper or book critical of Israel or its powerful lobby is silence. If it's a book, it rarely gets reviewed; its author doesn't get interviewed. If it's a paper, there are no news stories in the big corporate press, no interviews with the authors, no television appearances.

For the average American who depends on the press to tell him what's going on, it's as if the criticism never existed. The second weapon is, of course, to launch vicious personal attacks.

Both methods are being used against an astounding paper titled "The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy." It was written by two renowned academics, John J. Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago and Stephen M. Walt of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

So far as I've been able to determine with the help of Google, while the paper and talk about it are all over the Internet, they are missing from the big corporate press as of this writing. It was published in the London Review of Books, and you can read it or download an edited version at www.lrb.co.uk. There was one news story about it in the Christian Science Monitor and an attack on it by David Gergen in U.S. News & World Report. Gergen is editor at large of the magazine, which is owned by an ardent Zionist, Mortimer Zuckerman. Gergen is a professional spinmeister who has always served the people who have the butter for his bread.

The essence of the paper, which is thoroughly footnoted, is that Israel's lobby has so skewed American foreign policy in the Middle East that the U.S. places the security of Israel ahead of security for the United States.

"This situation has no equal in American history," the authors state.

1. And then there is this...
I took this from the Independent (UK), I think. Lost the link...

“According to Israel radio (in Hebrew) Kol Yisrael, Peres warned Sharon Wednesday that refusing to heed incessant American requests for a cease-fire with the Palestinians would endanger Israeli interests and "turn the US against us."
At this point, a furious Sharon reportedly turned toward Peres, saying "every time we do something you tell me Americans will do this and will do that. I want to tell you something very clear, don't worry about American pressure on Israel, we, the Jewish people control America, and the Americans know it."
The radio said Peres and other cabinet ministers warned Sharon against saying what he said in public because "it would cause us a public relations disaster."

3. Good catch
When I saw that quote I started looking for a debunk too, http://www.geocities.com/myjoy18/IAP03Oct01Lie.htm

What is odd is that site says its a Georgie Anne Geyer and the Wiki entry linked says it was a Amos Oz,ugh!

Need to debunk the debunking now, what's the deal?

Sounds like total BS though that Sharon would come out and say something so revealing on the radio.

4. The second I saw the quote
I thought it was a fake.

"Jews control America". Like he would say that even if it were true.

5. LOL
I'd ask how you can be so gullible, but I tend to think that people who believe stuff like this, want to believe it. The ancient meme that the Jews control everything has been thoroughly discredited, and eagerly believing and disseminating it doesn't reflect well on those that push it.

8. Jews controlling everything? No! Israel having a PAC that pushes for war?
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 10:57 AM by norml
Yes!

Knocking down some straw man, or a bogus linkless quote has little to do with this article.

9. You want to know who controls everything and calls the shots?
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 11:00 AM by Coastie for Truth
You don't want to know because you can't take it--
-- your friends and neighbors at Carlyle and the Project for a new American Century.

and compare it to - we've been through this exercise before with James Baker and George H Bush and Frank Carlucci?

11. Of the 6 entries in My Journal, you'll see that 3 of them are about oil.
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 03:56 PM by norml
Only one of them mentions AIPAC, and that is still mainly about oil.

Haven't I first blamed organizations like the
American Petroleum Institute,
The Carlyle Group,
and Project for the New American Century,
before I've ever gotten around to blaming organizations like
AIPAC?

If you'll look at the entirety of my DU posts over the years I've been a member you'll see this is so.

Some live in this room.

I merely visit.

Israel/Palestine is not my main concern.

It's only part of my main concern.

My main concern is to oppose to the movement that calls itself conservative.

To the degree that you support the movement that calls itself conservative, it's agenda, it's aims, I must oppose you.

15. Add these

I have previously posted links to Engdahl's book, Simmons' book, Evans' book, Deffeyes' two books, and Kunstler's book.

You might also want to check out my blog -- which is focused on energy politics and petroleum politics.

16. "To the degree that you support the movement that calls itself ..."
The cutesie comment
To the degree that you support the movement that calls itself conservative, it's agenda, it's aims, I must oppose you.
shows a broad paint brush -like a push broom --- or a severe case of Judeophobic racism.

I have an obsessive compulsive grudge against Carlyle, American Petroleum Institute, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the petroleum industry (including Halliburton and KBR)

I sincerely hope no-one would want to KYT as it would more than likely be saggy and smelly with ugly old age-spots :)
