The Australian — The World

Martin Chulov, Middle East correspondent
April 20, 2006

ARAB states have urged Hamas to renounce militancy in the wake of the Tel Aviv bombing, with the Arab League condemning the attack and Jordan accusing Hamas militants of using its land to smuggle weapons.

In a strong statement, Arab League secretary-general Amir Moussa denounced the Tel Aviv bombing, which killed nine people and wounded 65.
Mr Moussa warned against an escalation in the conflict that "targeted civilians on both the Palestinian and the Israeli sides".
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit labelled the blast an "act of terrorism", an unusually strong condemnation for an Arab state.
