The 10 most useful lies about terrorism
1. 'Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims.'

Perhaps the most often quoted of all chestnuts about terrorism, is the idea that it is solely a product of fundamentalist Islam.

A few examples of non-Islamic terrorist groups of the present and recent past:

The Irish Republican Army

Kach

ETA, or Basque Homeland and Freedom

Babbar Khalsa (Sikh)

Ulster Defense Association

Tamil Tigers, Sri Lanka

Aryan Nations, United States

Haaretz

4. There was a terror attack not 20 miles from my former home, done
Edited on Fri Sep-22-06 11:45 AM by Tom Joad
by a group some have defended here as "guilty of nothing more than standing up for Jews". (same people still post here. Anyway, this terror attack i am referring to took place in Santa Ana, Ca and killed Alex Odeh.

The same terror organization (the "jewish defense league") leaders were found guilty of planning to bomb a Mosque. Somehow that is seen as "guilty of nothing more than Standing up for Jews" by a few of our sick brothers and sisters here.

And in relation to the overall point of the article, why isn't it that we have not heard from every Christian congregation, every self-professing Christian, an apology for the wave of bombings of abortion and health clinics in this country?

Why haven't we heard some apology for W. Bush and his terror against the world, which he does in the name of Christianity?

Maybe that is too much to ask... but for some reason it is sometimes expectedted of Muslims.

8. Not directly that act, Cali, but defended an essay that said that
the Jewish Defense League. They did not defend attacks on Mosques, but did defend the organization.

"it appears the JDL’s real crime has always been standing up unequivocally for the Jewish people. They are Jews who refuse to be victims. "

Was the specific statement in the essay, printed in a mainstream Jewish Weekly, and defended, much to my surprise, right here in this forum.

Obviously the posts were eventually deleted. Some of the posters have since left to post hate elsewhere, but some are still around.

"As far as Christians speaking out against abortion clinic bombings, they certainly did."
All of them? Popular signs and bumper stickers in North Carolina, in the area Eric Rudolph was in hiding, said "Run Eric Run". http://archives.cnn.com/2001/LAW/07/27/harris.otsc/index.html

I don't mean that as a slight against Christians, but it just seems more is expected from Muslims. I am sure most Christians, including Conservative ones, do not support those bombings. Still, as the original post said, we need to fight against the idea that terrorism is a purely Muslim activity. It is not, and i think we can agree on that. People who seek to propagate that falsehood have a very negative agenda.

i dont recall the JDL being defended here....

and if this is the statement:
it appears the JDL’s real crime has always been standing up unequivocally for the Jewish people. They are Jews who refuse to be victims

that makes jews guity of defending a bombing....well one certainly is widing the definition of "standing up for"....to now include murder

11. I know the thread Tom's referring to...
It was that one written by Cinammon Stillwell. fyi, there were rather disturbing posts by one or two in that thread who later after being banned, moved on to praising groups like the JDL and Kahane...

Pelsar, I notice that yr very quick to claim that there are some at DU who defend groups like Hamas etc, yet you appear not to believe that there are also some who defend groups like the JDL...

9. No, the group was defended.
Which was the original claim, that the group committing this act was defended, here. That certainly
happened, I remember seeing those threads. It wasn't that surprising to see who the defenders were,
frankly, I thought the expressed opinions were consistent with previous statements.
