JERUSALEM - After constant U.S. requests, Britain has cut its contacts with Hamas.

Prime Minister Tony Blair last week ordered Alistair Crooke, his special emissary to Palestinian terrorist organizations, to pack his bags and come home to London.

Israeli officials welcomed his recall as "the first good news of the Jewish new year."

Crooke also served as security advisor of the European Union, so his departure is evidence of the success of the Israeli-American policy of isolating Palestinian militant groups.
