UN Expert Accuses Israel Of 'Apartheid and Colonialism'

Geneva - Israel is clearly an occupying force among the Palestinians, committing crimes such as apartheid and colonialism, a United Nations human rights expert claims. "There are elements of occupation constituting forms of colonialism and apartheid, and contravening international law," the UN reporter for the Palestinians' situation, John Dugard, wrote.

His report was due to be discussed during the current fourth meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Dugan questioned the legal consequences of such a deal for the Israeli government. "It is suggested that this question might appropriately be put to the International Court of Justice for a further advisory opinion," the expert wrote.

The Palestinian areas were the only region of a developing country which was denied its right to autonomy.
