Fire destroys NY anti-Zionist synagogue
<snip>

"A fire destroyed the synagogue and residence of a senior rabbi of an anti-Zionist, ultra-Orthodox Jewish group whose members attended an Iran-sponsored Holocaust denial conference in December.

Police and fire investigators said the blaze Sunday night in Monsey, about 35 miles north of New York City, was considered suspicious because the group, Neturei Karta, has been the target of threats, the Journal News reported on its Web site. Police would not confirm for The Associated Press that the blaze was considered suspicious.

No one was injured in the fire. The senior rabbi who lived at the location was in London.

Rabbi Yisroel Dovid of Neturei Karta said the group suspects arson because of previous threats.

"There's no question that the issue is to stifle the opposition to Zionism," he said by telephone early Monday morning."

3. The article says they don't dispute that the Holocaust happened...
That to me, says more than their stupidity in attending the Iranian sponsored conference on the Holocaust. And if a legitimate Holocaust scholar had been invited and chosen to attend, there's no way I'd be calling them a moron. I'd question their judgement in attending it, as I would anyone who doesn't dispute that the Holocaust happened and if any dispute they do have about the Holocaust is within commonly accepted bounds. I'm not aware of much at all to do with this group, so if they actually do deny the Holocaust or question events that are historically solid, then I'd like to read a bit more about it...

Of course nothing justifies arson attacks, if that's what it ends up being....

5. I am not justifying arson attacks against anyone
When you have a conference which hosts racists such as david duke, and other white supremists, no thank you, this conference had one purpose only, and it doesn't matter that some hasidaic Jew whose family died at auhswitz attended, it still was a conference to perpetuate hate

In fact what amazes most about the threads on the I/P forum is that much of the time it is not to perpetuate a dialog on solving the mideast crisis, but how to represent the other sides as monsters who don't derserve a state, or who don't have the right to exist

Incidently, that comment APPLIES TO ALL PARTIES

The obsession that goes on to dehumanize each side amazes me, because contrary to popular opinion it is NOT one sided, and it takes two to tango

I can post links to intolerant events from all sides, but what purpose does that really serve?

If people, and countries really wanted peace, they would be at the peace table now

2. Theynare one of the Orthodox groups

that do not recognize Israel. This is part of the statement they gave at the Holocaust denial conference in Tehran

The holocaust is something which is, I believe, (and I’ve heard many speakers here say) is something which is very hard to say that the Jewish people did not suffer. I mean somebody has to be, I think, either very very embittered or a person who doesn’t want to open his mind to study, to say that the Jewish people weren’t exterminated. The fact is that there were millions and millions of Jewish people living in Europe before World War II. Poland, the statistics say around 3 million, and Hungary there was over half a million, maybe close to a million and you go through Slovakia, Czechoslovakia, Romania and Ukraine, they were all full of Jewish people, full of Jewish communities and today they don’t exist. And almost nobody tries to refute that. It would be ridiculous to refute it because the fact is, the Jewish people were there and now they are not there.

Now maybe I can say that at the discussion of the holocaust, I may be the representative, the voice of the people who died in the holocaust because my grandparents died there. They were killed in Auschwitz. My parents were from Hungary. My father escaped and his parents remained. He wasn’t able to get them out of Hungary and they died in Auschwitz as were other relatives and all the communities that they knew. So to say that they didn’t die, to me you can not say that. I am the living remnant of the people who died in the holocaust and I am here, I believe sent by God, to humbly say, simply to speak to the people here and say, 'you should know that the Jewish people died, and do not try to say that it did not happen. They did die.' There are people throughout the Jewish communities, still alive in their seventies and eighties and every one of them will tell you their stories. It is something which you can not refute, but that being said, it doesn’t mean that the holocaust is a tool to use to oppress other people."<27>

6. How can anyone condone this arson attack?
That they are anti-Zionist ultra-Orthodox Jewish and they attended the Iran-sponsored Holocaust denial conference is not the issue!

7. No initial evidence of arson in fire that destroyed NY synagogue
Three holy scrolls were recovered seemingly undamaged from a safe inside the synagogue that burned down in what the fiercely anti-Zionist Neturei Karta described as a deliberate act.

Several other holy books were destroyed in the fire, said a Neturei Karta leader. The blaze heightened tension on the eve of Passover surrounding the group that locals in this largely Jewish community north of New York City aren't shy about describing with words like 'traitor' and 'crackpots.'

---snip---

Authorities were quick to say the fire was suspicious in the hours after the Sunday night blaze, but they backed off Monday afternoon as they got a closer look at the charred house. Peter Brower, chief of the Ramapo Police Department, said that although officials had not ruled anything out, nothing emerged from the initial investigation to indicate that arson was the cause. No sign of accelerants was found, he said.

'Right now, we have an undetermined origin to the fire,' Brower said.
