Israelis To Extend Fence Line
Decisions Delayed on Joining All Parts of West Bank Project

JERUSALEM, Oct. 1 -- Israel's cabinet agreed today to expand a fence project to keep Palestinians out of Israel, approving new construction in several areas deep inside the West Bank.

The cabinet deferred decisions, however, about connecting several lengths of the fence, effectively leaving it with large gaps, in response to U.S. criticism. Israeli officials said it would be several months before they make a decision on whether to close those gaps.

The United States has criticized the fence, saying it will complicate efforts to create a viable Palestinian state and negotiate a cease-fire to end the three-year-old intifada against Israel's continuing occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. U.S. officials have threatened to reduce Israeli loan guarantees if the fence veers too far into the West Bank.

Palestinian officials want the US to put pressure on Israel after its Cabinet approved a plan to extend a security barrier deep into the West Bank

Israel's Cabinet yesterday approved an extension of a security barrier that would swing around Jewish settlements deep in the West Bank, but would have large gaps for now to address US concerns, Israeli media said.

A barrier would be built east of Ariel -- with 18,000 residents the second largest settlement in the West Bank -- but would not immediately be connected to the main security fence which runs further west, closer to Israel.

Palestinian officials demanded that the US stop the construction.

Israel doesn't do anything, except murder more Palestinians and bulldoze their homes.

Let's see, Israel gives up territory under its control and helps create a state that won't be friendly. And what are the Palestinians giving up?

They're giving up at least 78% of their homeland if it's "Green Line", which it probably won't be, more depending on which illegal settlements are annexed.

What you don't seem to grasp is that the occupied territories aren't Israel's to bargain over:--it's theirs to leave, and that's the full extent of their rights to the lands. That such won't be enforced by the world's top cop and hypocrite is irrelevant.

First off, of course it's Israel's to bargain with. They took it during a war and no other nation claims it. Not Jordan. And not any other nation that has ever possessed the land. So, whether they want it or not, it is still theirs until they give it away.

And no, they will not give it all away. Because one of those nations that has possessed this land both long ago and now, is Israel. And it will not give up Jerusalem or any part of it.

The Palestinians want statehood. The only way that will happen is if Israel cooperates. However, the Palestinians never offer the one thing that Israel wants in return -- peace. They could have had a nation years ago, but they won't offer peace. They won't fight terror. All they have done with Intifada I and II is damage any chance that the two groups will be able to work together for decades.

I find it quite sad that Israel feels it has to do all it's doing.
