Israel steps up security ahead of holy day
Israel has sealed off the West Bank and Gaza Strip ahead of Yom Kippur - the holiest day in Judaism.

Fearing a terror attack, Israel has decided to close the Palestinian territories two days before the start of Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement.

No Palestinian will be allowed in or out of the West Bank or Gaza Strip until after the holiday on Monday.

Little Israel cannot rest even for a holiday.

3. I cannot imagine
How Israel preparing to defend herself would cause reactions so strong for posts to be deleted. Oh, my.

4. This "security" action is junk...
Another suicide bombing today. It is a worthless show to convince people that sharon is doing something.

6. That's not true...
It is easy to sneak by the IDF. The terrorists can enter Israel almost at will, lockdown or no lockdown.

7. Not through Gaza
And the wall will do the same to the West Bank.

8. The reason they haven't bypassed the Gaza wall...
is that they can easily get into Israel through the West Bank. If there is no way for the terrorists to get through, they'll find one.

9. I use the club on my car
Even though it has a security system so I make it that much harder on criminals. No system is perfect, but a very good system will stop most attacks and discourage others.

11. That, my friend, is their choice
They have another and have not chosen it.

Israel has an obligation to first and foremost protect ISRAELI citizens. The wall is doing just that. Israel has no obligation to protect citizens who wish to harm Israel.

12. Okay...
Why doesn't the US nuke the world? That will make the US completely secure from all attack.

16. Well, you said...
that a nation's first responsibility was to its citizens, and that it didn't matter what they did to those who weren't their citizens. So, as I said, why not nuke the world? That makes the US immune from attack.

18. Well for a couple reasons
One, that ISN'T in the best interest of the American public for starters. Nuclear winter would be bad for the economy, not to mention deadly for pretty much everybody.

Two, it has no reason to.

Your wild use of hyperbole does not become you.

19. Nor is building a wall...
in the best interest of the Israeli public.

This wall needs to be staffed and watched for it to be effective. Since it is a way to get out of a real solution, it will simply be a festering wound, a pit to throw money in for no worthwhile purpose. IDF soldiers will continue dying even if the wall prevents 100% of bombings, and rockets will damage it, requiring repairs.

Peace, real, just peace, is in the best interest of EVERYONE involved.

13. In addition...
Does Israel deserve suicide bombings for continuing the occupation?

One atrocity does not justify another.

17. And suicide bombings will continue until Israel indicates....
that it's willing to make concessions - and the only way that that will be believed is by making them.

And as long as suicide bombings continue, people will continue to justify Israel's atrocities as "legitimate responses" to the atrocities committed by those on the Palestinian side.

The Israelis shot up a cafe, and your peers there called the victims "terrorists", or tried to blame them for it anyway.

It was meant to clash with your paradigm, but no humour (even the subtle dark humour I adore) was intended.

none of Muddle's peers there even addressed the points of the article. They completely ignored it.

So, you're right, but even more so then you yourslef thought.

Ignorance is worse than stupidity.

23. I don't blame the victims...
I blame the perpentrators.

I can look at the conflict from a pragmatic viewpoint or a moral one. From a pragmatic viewpoint, the case can be made dor either side that they are responsilbe for the other's atrocities as well as their own. From a moral viewpoint, those who carry out the atrociities are responsible.

The truth is that the paragmatic viewpoint has to be taken into account, even if its conclusions aren't confortable.
