Palestinian Towns Locked Down by Israel
Trying to prevent another terror attack during the Jewish holidays, Israel enforced an open-ended lockdown of Palestinian towns Wednesday and ordered two more battalions into the West Bank and Gaza Strip

Reflecting the tensions, the Israeli military announced late Tuesday it was extending the lockdown of the West Bank and Gaza, banning Palestinians from Israel and cordoning off Palestinian towns.

Despite the measures, violence continued Wednesday. Three Israeli soldiers were wounded, one seriously, in a Palestinian shooting attack on a West Bank road near the city of Nablus.

Even during the Jewish holidays, Israel must bring control.

Control needs to be brought.

so the Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation is continuing. That's not barbarism. Nor is it terrorism.

8. its significant that the people under siege are...
...palestinian civilians. What exactly does "lock-down" mean and have Israelis ever experienced a state-sanctioned lock-down?

I know I have never experienced such a thing, and my outlook toward those imposing this on me would be less than friendly.

9. Lockdown...
...is when the jailer (the IDF) confines their prisoners (the people of Palestine) to their cells (Gaza & the West bank) for a specific period of time (in this case 'open ended').

11. West Bank and Gaza
If those are the areas the Palestinians want for a state, how can they be the equivalent of jails? The Palestinians have to right to be in Israel after all. That is not their nation.

12. Let's just say..
...that the Palestinians are under a form of 'house arrest.' As long as Israel controls the external borders of Palestine and reserves the right to restrict travel in and out of the OT to neighboring countries, the Palestinians will remain their prisoners.

13. Statehood
Even if the Palestinians get a state. Israel will control a good chunk of that border. If the Palestinians don't settle things peacefully, they will never be allowed to cross it.

Only Jews can suffer, only they can be oppressed. You've been here long enough to know that...

17. hmm
Yes but that's the sad thing with accepting such logic and mentality. I am nut suprised if I witness it on sites like FR or other neocon/ultra conservative sites were 90% of the people think that Sharon is too moderate with his approach towards Palestinians. But here? Sad...

18. If you think it is a ghetto
Long term, do you then believe a Palestinian state is ever viable? It sounds like no, since as a separate state they could easily be barred from Israel. How would Gaza flourish? What about the West Bank? How could they even travel from one to the other?

19. You wind up with either a one-state solution or blatant apartheid
I'm sure I know which one would be preferred by Beautiful Israel and it's believers abroad.

20. One state won't happen
Because Israel ceases to exist under that scenario.

So what is it that the Palestinians really want? A nonviable Palestinian state because they have destroyed any chance of working together with Israel for decades or do they just want to destroy Israel and kick out all the Jews?

22. That seems to be THEIR choice
They don't want peace with Israel, that much is clear. So if Israel walls them off, then it's ISRAEL'S fault?

Seriously, what do the Palestinians really want? You seem to think a two-state solution is not viable. And Israel has already made it clear it has this pesky tendency to want to continue to exist. Given those things, what is it that Palestinians desire?

23. Israel made it non-viable
Edited on Fri Oct-10-03 10:03 AM by LevChernyi
Ariel Sharon himself built those settlements where they are and he has said himself that he placed them where he did for just that purpose: To end any chance of a Palestinian state. This is the purpose of the wall that the media insists on calling a "security barrier". This has always been Israel's choice, acting as though the Palestinians had the power to change anything is mindboggling to me.

24. What would make it viable?
Would it be viable if the wall was built on the Green Line? Not hardly. The Palestinians (especially in Gaza) are massively dependent on Israel for jobs and the ability to travel from one area to the other.

Yet the Palestinians continue to fight a war against Israel when they need them as a friend.

27. So because Israel consciously set out to make it impossible
the blame falls on the Palestinians and you need to be suspicious of them.

I don't get it.

30. Israel doesn't make it impossible
The Palestinians are where they are. Unless you want Israel to relocate them and I think there are laws against that sort of thing.

32. What is it that you are trying to say?
The Palestinians are where they are because a nation of people was dispersed at gunpoint by Jewish zionists a half century or so ago. You can talk all day about terrorists but acting as though it's some great mystery or someone else's fault is crazy.

Are you trying to say that Israel's policies toward settlement had nothing to do with trying to destroy any hopes of Palestinian nationalism?

33. The Palestinians
are where they are because of the Arab attacks on Israel.

Israel doesn't need to make the Palestinian state unviable, the Palestinian realty does that all by itself.
