Palestinian Delegate Backs Armed Struggle
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20031012/ap_on_re_mi_ea/islamic_summit_palestinians_1

"Pursuing the armed struggle is a must, as it is the only solution in sight to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," Farouk Kaddoumi, the de facto Palestinian foreign minister, was quoted as saying by the Malaysian national news agency Bernama. "We must continue our struggle against the occupation. This is the only solution to our problem."

Kaddoumi, the head of the Palestine Liberation Organization's political department, is representing the Palestinians at a weeklong series of meetings of the Organization of Islamic Conference in Malaysia. Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat is prevented from leaving the West Bank by the Israeli military.

Extremists have launched dozens of attacks on Israelis during three years of violence, and Israel has retaliated by invading Palestinian territory, targeting senior militant leaders in rocket attacks and, recently, launching an air strike inside Syria at an alleged training camp for Palestinian militants.

The Palestinian Authority condemns suicide attacks after they occur, and Kaddoumi's comments appeared to be direct opposition to the official Palestinian position.

old habits are hard to break.

so basically theyre going to continue the murder of innocent people.

Yes, targeting them is legitimate, as long as harm to civilians is minimized.

Legitimate armed resistance isn't terror.

— Yasser Arafat, January 2002

"Violence is the only solution,"

if you dont realize that daddy arafat is the king of terrorists by now then i aint gonna persuade you. Possibly you believe that Al Fatah, Islamic Jihad and the PLO are social clubs.

In a fiery speech in Ramallah today, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat called for more martyrdom, reportedly saying: "I am willing to sacrifice 70 to die to kill one Israeli."

Israel Radio West Bank correspondent Avi Yissakharov reported Arafat declared "all Palestinians are Muhammad al-Dura," that all Palestinians are martyrs. Al-Dura was a 12-year-old boy killed in the Gaza Strip last year while his father tried to protect him from crossfire between Palestinian snipers and Israeli Defense Forces.

Arafat called for all to join in the struggle to stop what he termed the Israeli program to Judaize Jerusalem.

The crowd roared back to Arafat, "Millions of martyrs are already marching to Jerusalem."

Israel Television Channel Two reported this evening that Arafat also told the crowd, "I am willing to sacrifice 70 martyrs to kill one Israeli" and called for a continuation of the struggle against Israel.

25. Okay, thanks...
I think violence of any kind is generally bad, except when it's a last resort to save lives.

A Palestinian firing a gun at an IDF soldier to stop him from killing his son is fine to me. A Palestinian shooting an IDF soldier to stop the IDF from bulldozing his house is also fine, IMO.

I think the Palestinians should be clear about opposing terrorist attacks and start more non-violent protests.

But then again, I think the desperation of the Palestinians is an important thing to keep in mind, and I really can't blame them for attackign IDF soldiers, even though it is not the best way to go.

Do you expect the IDF to be shot at and not respond?

Unfortunately, the enemy is too cowardly to fire upon people who are trained to fight back.

You can't have it both ways, don. If you think it's fine to kill militants, then yr displaying double standards to not also think it's fine to kill IDF troops....

btw, someone should tell Yang to read what he responds to. I pointed out several times I was talking about attacks on Israeli troops, not civilians, but maybe Yang is trying to argue that the IDF isn't trained to fight back and those nasty militants should leave them alone? ;)

17. Support is a tricky word
the IDF is an actual military target. The IDF is expecting to risk their life as oppossed to say, a person eating in Maxims or a child in kendergarten.

So support? no...

But it is legitimate resistance as oppossed to attacking a wedding party or cafe.

34. Any resistance or opposition to US or Israel is terrorism

Neither regime recognizes such a thing as legalized resistance.

Palestinians or Iraqis, when their doors are kicked down by US or Israeli gunmen, should kneel or prostrate themselves and accept execution or torture as pleases their attackers.

They should take care to avoid prostrating or kneeling in a defiant, inciteful or rejectionist manner.

42. Your posts
often seem like blatant propoganda.

When the PLO attempted revolution in Jordan no one called it terrorism. When Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Iraq and Saudi Arabia attacked Israel no one called it terrorism.

Terrorism is using irregluar armed bodies to target civilians in order to cause terror in your opponent.

Most sane people in the world consider it inappropriate to blow up a wedding.

How about you?

48. I guess this means you disapprove of the US bombing in Afghanistan
Most sane people in the world consider it inappropriate to blow up a wedding.

When an entire wedding party was wiped out by US F-16s whose drug-crazed pilots thought they were being attacked when the wedding participants fired their weapons to the air in the traditional celebratory custom.

PS: We did the same thing in Iraq, except we used our tanks for that!

I am glad to hear you have joined the rest of us that oppose US involvement in Iraq, and in the Middle East.

59. Support is a tricky word
I wish someone else had executed that war. I knew Bush wouldn't so it right and he didn't. So in theory I supported the war but I didn't trust Bush to do it.

The precedent was US and European attacks on the Barbary Pirates.

I have oppossed all the Iraq wars. I was against arming them in the first place.

but this isn't really on topic.
