Israel: Palestinian terrorists out to harm peacemakers
Israeli officials said the attack underscored the need to dismantle Palestinian terror groups — a requirement of the stalled, US-backed "road map" peace plan that Palestinian leaders have refused to carry out.

Officials said Palestinian terrorists are trying to harm even those out to help the Palestinian cause, and that no political progress could be made until a solution to the ongoing terrorism is found.

"What happened is evidence that no one is immune, unfortunately, to Palestinian terrorism, even when we are talking about the representatives of ... the United States, whose entire goal was and remains to advance a peace agreement between the sides," said Zalman Shoval, an adviser to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom called US Ambassador to Israel Dan Kurtzer to offer his condolences and for the "terrible attack in Gaza." He said Israel is offering any further assistance the US may need.

Our friend Israel is there for us. The back of Palestinian resistance needs to be broken.

Oh, about dismantle:

41. The "road map" uses the word dismantle twice.

I checked it on both Jewish and Palestinian propaganda sites
to be sure. Both are in the Phase one section. Notice the
bold language.

Security:

* Rebuilt and refocused Palestinian Authority security apparatus begins
sustained, targeted, and effective operations aimed at confronting all those
engaged in terror and dismantlement of terrorist capabilities and infrastructure.
This includes commencing confiscation of illegal weapons and consolidation
of security authority, free of association with terror and corruption.

Settlements:

* GOI immediately dismantles settlement outposts erected since March 2001.

* Consistent with the Mitchell Report, GOI freezes all settlement activity
(including natural growth of settlements).

2. Why?
Why should the palestinain resistance against an unjust Israeli occupation be broken?

3. The resistance means
to destroy Israel rather than end the occupation. Their own charters confirm this.

5. How do you know?
Many members join because the group is the best way to fight the occupation, not because they neccesarily agree with the group's aims.

Legitimate armed resistance against the occupation is legitimate, just like Israel's military acions for security are legitimate; as long as they both avoid harm to innocent people, something both groups have severe problems with.

Whether it's productive for either side to do this is another story.

9. So long as they avoid harming innocents?
That is exactly the aim of the terrorist groups. They are in no way legitimate.

11. No, it isn't...
and here is where I differ with the pro-Israel crowd about the suicide bombers.

Suicide bombers, like it or not, are human. However despicable they may be, however atrocious or inhumanitarian their actions, they are human. They have human emotions and human feelings, and the only way to stop them is to understand them.

The goal of the suicide bombers is to end Palestinain suffering. I'm not talking about those who provide them with bombs and weaponry; those people are crooks generally unconcerned with ideology. I'm talking about those who actually wear the bomb belts; those whon actively blow themselves up on bosses and inside cafes.

The method is, of course, atrocious and not conductive to the aim; the same way that bulldozing houses of innocent people is. That doesn't change the reasons for doing so.

The targeting of combatants is most certainly legitimate.

6. both CIA and Dyncorp are noted for their worldwide peacemaking work

The technology used is much more similar to that possessed by Israel and only dreamed of by the Palestinian Resistance.

It is either a sparkle or the car contained a whistleblower.

7. NAUSEATING
It's really quite nauseating to the Sharon government hypocritically and cynically whining about Palestinians targeting peacemakers. In fact, it's downright disgusting. Ask Rachel Corrie's parents.

8. Israel is not friend of the United States
and has never been. Israel has always put her national interests first. We should do the same, and stop enabling those gangsters that are running Israel!

10. America and Israel
are the greatest of friends. They advocate for themselves, one another, and democracy. There are partners in the war on terror.

12. Speaking for myself
I'd be rather embarrassed to enunciate platitudes like this:

"They advocate for themselves, one another, and democracy. There are partners in the war on terror."

I just couldn't do it! I'm no saint, but I do have some pride.

13. Are you talking about...
the "war" that the US has launched?

The one that drops bombs on villages?

The one that makes war in an already war-torn land?

The one that spreads chaos and destruction throughout the Middle East?

The one that fanatically supports the oppressor over the oppressed?

The one that supports the occupier over those occupied?

The one that attacks a nation that has nothing to do with terrorism?

The one that tells lies about doing so?

The one that alienates our allies?

The one that violates international law?

The one that sacrifices hundreds of soldiers and countless civilians?

The one that rolls back our precious civil liberties?

The one that detains hundreds without charge?

The one that authorizes unwarranted searches?

The one that gives aid to murderous regimes that help it?

The one that hides indicting evidence for cheap oil?

The one that attacks our enemies but lies for the benefit of our "friends?"

Any regime that supports it is suspect.

14. War on earth not terror
Edited on Thu Oct-16-03 02:17 AM by bluesoul
That "war on terror" (better put would be war on terra) is straight from the neo-con textbook. I find it amazing that some DU'ers fall for that. But then...
