EU 'strongly deplores' Malaysian PM's remarks on Jews

The European Union on Friday released a statement
of strong condemnation of comments made the day
before by Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir
Mohamad, who said that "Jews rule the world by
proxy."

After a move by French President Jacques Chirac to block the EU
from ending its two-day summit with a harshly-worded statement
condemning Mahathir's remarks on the grounds that the
conference was not the correct forum for such a statement, the
EU issued a statement "forcefully deploring" the remarks.
