BBC: Palestinian film joins Oscar race
Let's see if I am right when I say that there is little difference between the rabid "pro-Israel" folks that oppose a Palestinian state and want to keep land taken in 1967, and our Miami gusanos that always succeed in keeping Cuban artists from appearing at the Grammys. They are both driven by their blind hatred, and they both want to hold US foreign policy hostage to their petty bigoted agendas.

Palestinian film joins Oscar race

A Palestinian film that was banned from this year's Oscars has been named among a record 55 movies in next year's race to win the best foreign film award.

Divine Intervention was rejected last time because Palestine was not recognised as a nation.

But the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which runs the awards, has now decided to make "an exception".

The drama about Israeli occupation is joined by two other first-time entries for 2004, Mongolia and Sri Lanka.

Divine Intervention, directed by Elia Suleiman, has received critical acclaim and picked up the jury prize at Cannes in 2002.
