Israel has plenty of tactics for war, but none for peace
A leadership dazzled by its own military might ignores the political reality and believes the only solutions lie in force

4. It's your belief that Egypt has been bought off by the US?
Edited on Sat Jan-03-09 04:02 PM by Rage for Order
The only reason Egypt isn't at war with Israel is because the US gives Egypt approximately $2.5 billion, an amount that is about half of the annual budget for the state of Mississippi, in aid each year? Seriously?

eta: Egypt's annual budget is roughly $28 - $30 billion, so US aid represents less than 10 percent of the overall budget.

8. Oh, those traitorous Egyptian stooges.
I'm sure the Saudis will come rushing to aid the Palestinians. Oh, wait.

Well, I'm sure the Jordanians...the Syrians...the Lebanese...All those countries are bigger, more populated than Israel.......why aren't they rushing aid to the Palestinians? Fear of America? They know damn well we haven't got anyone to fight them with. Our army is calling up fifty-year-olds to fight. We're tapped out. Now's the moment. Come on, SAVE THOSE PALESTINIANS!

I'm sure they'll be there any minute now.

7. Nonsense. Only the PA has ever been a viable if somewhat
weak peace partner; Hamas never has. Reducing Hamas control even if unable to defeat it is at least a step towards initial peace efforts thwarted by Hamas. Peace is not possible with Hamas, without Hamas there is at least a chance.

9. You don't get it. Hamas stands for...
Uh...they stand for standing up to the wicked Jews. Which makes them the freedom-loving good guys. Get with the program.

10. What a perfectly silly thing to say.
What do you suggest is the peaceful way to treat someone wearing a suicide vest? Let me know.

HOW do you feel peaceful after a bus bombing, a market bombing, a restaurant bombing? I mean, isn't that asking a wee tiny bit much?

I've got a pro-Palestinian friend who was terribly distressed at all the bedwetting among the nervous Palestinian children. She never checked to see if the Israeli children were ever a bit upset being afraid of markets and buses and restaurants. Or asked the Palestinians what they were doing to make their kids feel safer.

May I suggest that blowing up your neighbors is NOT a good way to make friends? Kinda makes them want to return the favor, don't you think?

I'm touched that you think none of that matters.

When the Palestinians decided that the ways of Gandhi were not their ways, they made themselves unwelcome pretty much everywhere, not just Israel. But you only blame the Israelis. You don't blame Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon...all nations with locked doors. Well, Lebanon would lock them if they could. Tried killing them all instead. Blamed the Israelis for that one, too, didn't you. But the Lebanese were the ones who wanted them dead and made as sure of it as they could. Fun neighbors, the Palestinians.

11. This is what I love about internet boards
Find an article somewhere online that supports your own position, no matter how insulting or incorrect.

Is there any irony in the way the Israelis have come down on all the Palestinians? Oh, but wait, those in the West Bank are OK for now, and the Israelis have left them alone, at least relative to Gaza. If there is any intelligence in the West Bank, which I am inclined to think there may be, they won't take up Hamas' idea of suicide bombings and other nonsense in the West Bank.

If one were to believe your article, and apparently your support of it from your other posts, the Israelis would have been invading West Bank as well.

Personally, I wish the Israelis had announced some major humanitarian programs for the West Bank in addition to expanded peace talks there before they went into Gaza. It would have completely paralyzed the Arab League. How can you argue the plight of the Palestinians when the Palestinians who aren't hostile are benefitting, but those who lob missiles are being attacked?

I find it hard to believe that anyone in the Western world could possibly support an organization that not publicly exhorts and acts on the annihilation of another, but offers to pay the families for the intention death of their children if they take out civilians on the other side.

From my philosophy, I believe the terms that describes what you allegedly support is "barbarism". That is the beauty of DU. You are free to believe what you want no matter how delusional...
